Summary

My name is Keenan Crump and I am a 2011 graduate of Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies: Mass Media and a minor in Political Science and graduated cum laude. My two biggest passions are sports and politics and my career interests all involve at least one of those subject areas. My number one career goal is to work in television or radio as a play-by-play commentator for major professional and collegiate sports and much of my time as a college student has been geared towards reaching that goal.

Skills

Skills

Microsoft Office

Vast experience and daily use of Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. I have found use for each in my coursework, professional work and extracurricular activities, ranging from writing newspaper articles to creating PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets.

Audio Editing

I have worked with such audio editing software as Audacity and Garage Band for the production of podcasts, audio news stories, sports highlight reels, and on-air promotional material for radio.

Anchor/Talk Show Host

I co-hosted 4 radio shows for the campus radio station with subject-matter ranging from sports to politics, to local and national news and current events. My shows were one of only a handful of talk shows that were broadcast on the campus radio station. I also served as the anchor of WMLU's first-ever live broadcast coverage of the 2010 SGA Presidential debate. As a radio host and anchor, I have had the privilege to interview various coaches of Longwood athletic teams, high-level campus administrators, local news reporters, and even Chris Fowler of ESPN.  Furthermore, I was responsible for creating specific content to fill 1 or 2 hour broadcasts each week and taking phone calls from students and local citizens who shared their thoughts on that night's material. During my time as a host, my shows regularly received the highest marks in the station's evaluation and ratings process.

Sports Play-by-Play

Along with serving as Sports Director and Executive Producer of WMLU Sports, I served as a play-by-play announcer for WMLU Sports' coverage of Longwood Lancers men's and women's basketball and Longwood Lancers baseball. I worked in this capacity from 2008 to 2011 and have broadcast over 30 NCAA Division 1 sports contests at Longwood University and on campuses all across Virginia and parts of the Mid-Atlantic.

Broadcast Journalism

I have experience as an anchor/reporter for The Rotunda Show and for specific in-class projects and exercises related to my Broadcast Production courses. I have covered a variety of stories in news, sports, and feature formats. My experience also includes filming stand-ups, recording voice tracks, conducting interviews, developing content for story ideas, and meeting deadlines while working in a team and newsroom environment.

Print Journalism

I have written for the campus newspaper, The Rotunda, since 2008 and have served as a reporter in news and sports as well as a political columnist. I have experience writing in AP style and have been published 20+ times. I have covered stories ranging from the 2008 US Presidential Election (as a columnist) to a two-part enterprise piece covering new Longwood University president Patrick Finnegan's first year in office.

Apple Final Cut Express

Plenty of experience working with Final Cut editing software for Mac. I have edited news, sports, and feature packages as well as VO's, VO/SOTs and online newscasts using Final Cut for the classroom and for use in The Rotunda Show. Repeated use has allowed me to hone my skills and make editing video projects less stressful and in shorter time.
