Dear Selection Committee:

I am currently searching for a full time career as an elementary teacher where I can both utilize and improve my skills.  I am a dedicated lifelong learner and I am enthusiastic about awakening this gift of inquiry and knowledge in my students.  I believe I would excel in a placement in a regular classroom or with a consistent schedule so I can really connect with the students I am teaching and be a valuable member of a teaching team and school community.

I have been  working with children in education in some capacity or another for over 10 years. From educational assistant in a section 22 classroom in 2005 to ESL teaching in Thailand in 2007 I have been involved in various aspects of education including classroom teacher at International Schools in Thailand in 2011-12. I enjoyed this position and learned a lot about classroom management and curriculum implementation.

Since 2013, I have been working regularly as an Occasional Teacher at many schools in the Near North District. I am now looking to further my experience and put my skills to work in an LTO or permanent position. I am passionate about French Immersion since I was a graduate of the program myself. I am always working towards improving my speaking abilities but feel confident that I can pass the French Competency Test if I am offered employment.

While in my care we worked on art therapy and counselling for 24 hours a month. Paid by her mother from funds from Hands the Family Help network. I had to stop working when my son was born as I would not have been able to give her the full attention she deserved.

Garden International School is a medium sized school teaching students of all nationalities using the UK curriculum. It teaches students aged 3 to 18 in the medium of the English language. I was employed in January to fill a position in year two because the current year 2 class had grown too large for one class. I was therefore homeroom teacher for 13 six and seven year olds teaching everything except P.E., music and Thai Language. School is now on holidays but I am scheduled to teach year 1 in the fall. I also run the arts and crafts club after school and am curriculum coordinator for PSHE (Personal Social Health Education).

A small to middle sized International school in Pathum Thani Rangsit area teaching from Nursery to Grade 12.  The school follows the California Curriculum Standards and hires teachers primarily from the U.S.A., Canada and other English countries. The students come from many backgrounds and learn all subjects in the English language. I was homeroom teacher for a small group of 6 year old grade 1 students, teaching all subjects except Thai language, P.E. and Music/Art. Along with my Teaching Assistant I plan fun, hands on learning activities, organize field trips and run the arts and crafts club after school.

Arts Program Supervisor

Camp Towhee (Integra Foundation)

An intimate sized summer camp on the shores of hurricane lake in Haliburton Ontario. Run by Integra (a children's mental health clinic) it services children and youth clients of Integra with Learning Disabilities and other mental and/or physical health issues.

As arts program supervisor I oversaw the running of the arts programs at the camp. I managed the harmony hut and the music program teaching musical instruments, song and music appreciation along with our full time music programmer. I also managed the art hut and programming teaching things such as painting, sculpting and paper mache with our full time visual and dramatic arts programmer. 

I worked directly with each of the students in the camp ranging in age from 9 to 18 making sure they were always supervised, providing discipline and a summer of fun and friendship receiving glowing reports from my supervisor and the children themselves.

Grand Youth Services (GYS) is a staff based 10-bed residence for boys and girls between the ages of 6 – 12 years old. The home provides 24 hour supervision and exists to provide a therapeutic environment for children that are unable to function in a family type environment at this stage of their lives. 

As Child and Youth Worker I worked as part of a team of caring staff providing assistance, counseling and other parental type duties in this therapeutic environment. I implemented behaviour management strategies and crisis intervention techniques and provided support to the children of GYS.

Little House Residential Care

Little House runs three therapeutic long term care facilities for youth aged 6-18 in Smithville Ontario. Children are generally referred through Toronto CAS because they are unable to function in a family environment. It is a parent model group home with Child and Youth Worker live in support.

As a live in care giver I gave support and care for youth, providing regular parent responsibilities as well as counseling, behaviour management and crisis intervention. Our team of dedicated professionals planned programs that were engaging and educational for the youth in our programs.

EFL learning centre is a small language school with specially designed tutoring courses that provide a unique opportunity to study one-on-one or in a small group with a professionally qualified native English teacher. All courses are tailored to suit students' specific needs and the areas in which they wish to improve their language ability. 

As an English teacher I taught everything from beginner English to IELTS University Test preparation. I taught all ages and classes ranging from one on one tutoring to a restaurant course with 35+ restaurant staff.  I implented behaviour management with the younger ones and classroom management with the larger groups. I made engaging lessons that the students enjoyed with many visuals and handmade supplies. I used my creativity and my love of teaching to impart knowledge and make learning fun.

Mutual Support Systems of Niagara

Performed live-in houseparent duties for a parent model group home with seven resident crown wards aged 10-18. Worked on a rotating schedule between 2 group homes for the same company when regular houseparents took their 10 days off. With a partner I managed the house and relief budget, planned outings and activities, celebrated holidays and birthdays and helped staff the section 20 classrooms. I dealt with crisis and counselling situations as well as daily support with things like bedtime, routines and chores. I took children to doctors appointments and hospitals when necessary and assumed the duties of a parent and therapeutic counsellor.
