Practiced individual and group counseling as well as crisis intervention to students (K-12) and supportive counseling to staff, administration, and families. A member of the Child Study Team (CST) and Intervention & Referral Service (I&RS) program. Chairperson for the School Crisis Mental Health Team, facilitator for the school behavior modification program, provided psychoeducational and psychosocial assessment and submitted monthly reports to the Board of Trustees. Started a monthly newsletter called Tips for Teachers and put in information to the school newsletter. Provided workshops related to mental health, violence in families and schools, and academic improvement. Set up Parent Support Club.
Instructor for "Sophomore Psychology"
The course was a comprehensive overview of the field of social psychology. The major psychological models were introduced, such as cognitive, behavioral, biological, and cross-cultural perspectives. The emphasis of the course explored the psychological principles that foster a greater understanding of human behavior and mental processes. The importance of the scientific method and psychological research was also emphasized.
Student & Staff Presentation & Workshop Facilitator
Provide and provided presentations for students on teen dating violence, bullying, conflict resolution, HIV/STDs, suicide & depression, drugs & alcohol use, and diversity. Also gave trainings & workshops to faculty, staff, and administration on Behavior Modification Intervention Plans, Functional Behavioral Assessments, Division of Youth & Families, nonviolent communication, children & mental illness. Facilitated networks with the Mental Health Associations of New Jersey, Department of Children & Families, Horizon Health, and other organizations to provided education, training, and services to schools.
School Counseling Supervisor
One-to-one supervision once per week for 6 hours. Student was given information about school policy and procedures and was given opportunities to explore academic skills in a school environment. The student-intern attended Child Study Team meetings, assisted during Sophomore Psychology class, observed student behaviors within the classroom, and assisted the Special Education Director.
