Network & Systems Technician

Responsible for maintenance of 60+ computers, 25+ surveillance cameras, and a dozen printers. Research various technologies, evaluate system configuration requirements, purchase equipment, string cables, install hardware/software components, network configuration and administration, troubleshoot and problem solve for all departments of Village Government (Building-Zoning, Clerk's Office, Justice Court and Police Department). Consult appropriate vendors when necessary including Town of Southampton, Suffolk County Police Department, NY State Troopers, Optimum Online, Verizon, Broadview Networks, Hamptons Online, CBS Whitcom Technologies, Hauppauge Computers, Hampton Security Services and East End Computers. Assist with inventory tracking and auditing for Clerk's Office. Assist with records management and document imaging for Building-Zoning Department. Website Manager. Process Film and Video Permits within the Village of Westhampton Beach.

Network and Systems Consultant

The network installation projects I assisted with include John’s Pools and Spas, the restaurant at Indian Island Golf Course, Starr Boggs, and the Westhampton Steakhouse. Average installation and network administration required approximately 60 hours of work. A typical project entailed first setting up each individual workstations and the server with the proper operating system, software and hardware. The next order of business would be to connect all the workstations to the router and ensure that the internet connection is configured properly. During this initial process, we would run all appropriate operating system and software updates. For all of the restaurant-related installations, this included configuration of the touch-screen monitors that one would see at almost any major restaurant these days. Those monitors need to be calibrated properly in order to be utilized. Also, we would need to install the Restaurant Management Software. Next, we would usually have to configure file and printer sharing, map drives, and perform extensive testing on the device connectivity. The average restaurant installation would have 3-4 network printers that any workstation would have available to print to. In addition, there would usually be 3-4 local printers as well. Once the entire network was determined to be fully functional, we would physically bring all of the equipment to the location, set it all up, troubleshoot, problem-solve, and work out any bugs that may arise. Once this process is complete, we would need to train the staff on functionality, and more specifically how to customize the restaurant management software database with their own menu items, side dishes, etc.
