Highland Dance

I have recently started doing highland dancing. It is really fun and a great source of exercise. A lot of the focus is on the legs.

Figure Skating

I have been figure skating for 18 years and I love every minute of it! I have my Skate Canada Gold Dances which is the highest level to achieve, a feat not many have. I am currently working on my Skate Canada Gold Interpretive. Figure skating is mentally and physically demanding and you must be totally dedicated to the sport.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to apply for a teaching position with the Bluewater District School Board. I will graduate from the Schulich School of Education at Nipissing University in the primary/junior program in June 2011 and hold an Honours degree in English from the University of Guelph. Fifteen years of coaching figure skating and more than three years of classroom experience have given me exceptional opportunities to hone my teaching skills. I am confident you will agree that I can be a valuable asset to your school district thanks to my extensive experience with children.

As my resume demonstrates, I have dedicated a large portion of my life to enriching the learning of children.  As such, I have prepared for a career in education at every opportunity. This included my undergraduate study when I took courses such as Children’s Literature, Family and Relationship Issues, and Infant Development. My experience coaching figure skating has allowed me to mature and grow as a teacher. I have been able to adopt my own teaching style over the years.

My experience with coaching and summer day camps has allowed me to work with a wide cross-section of students. This has given me the skills to adapt my teaching to various backgrounds, abilities and special needs. Since I worked in situations with little supervision, I often had to deal with unique situations including both disciplinary issues and sensitive family matters that the children I cared for had. These experiences have allowed me to grow into the kind of teacher than can adapt, care for, and encourage all children to achieve their fullest potential.

I thank you for taking the time to consider my application and look forward to meeting you to further discuss my qualifications. As I begin this new chapter in my life, I am excited and enthusiastically looking forward to new opportunities to teach, learn and grow.

Sincerely,

Amanda Weber
