Summary

A Process Engineer who is driven by the challenges inherent within process design, with work experience encompassing conceptual, FEED and detailed design. I have had hands-on roles in various areas of process design including equipment sizing, hydraulic calculations, relief studies and process simulation using industry recognised software such as Aspen HYSYS and Flaresim. My experience covers various aspects of oil and gas production, including crude stabilisation and storage, produced water treatment, and gas compression/dehydration/dewpointing. I have been the point-of-contact process engineer on various projects and as such I am comfortable interfacing with other engineering disciplines, the project team, clients and vendors.

Senior Process Engineer

Served as the senior process engineer on a sea water injection facility design for Dragon Oil, in offshore Caspian sea:

  • Developed a process model to meet the client's specifications
  • Prepared a Process Description and Design Basis detailing the parameters used to model and develop the sea water injection design.
  • Produced a Control & Operating philosophy to define the controls, alarms and shutdown systems used in the design of the facility
  • Sketched PFDs and P&IDs for the draughting team to accurately represent the sea water injection process equipment and piping design.
  • Performed calculations to correctly size and specify various equipment (lift and injection pumps, relief valves, control valves, buffer vessels, process lines, chemical injection package) needed for the facility
  • Produced datasheets to obtain technical and commercial quotations from vendors

Served as a senior process engineer for a conceptual / feed study to determine the technical and commercial viability of a gas for power production facility for Vioco Petroleum, in onshore Cote D'Voire:

  • Prepared a Functional Specification from the client’s Basis of Design, detailing the various engineering processes proposed in order to fulfil and optimise the client’s requirements.
  • Created multiple simulation scenarios using Aspen HYSYS to prepare heat and material balances for use in calculating the required equipment sizes and heat duties
  • Sketched PFDs and P&IDs for the draughting team to accurately represent the equipment and piping design of the plant.
  • Performed utility calculations (chemical injection, instrument air, fuel gas) required for the facility’s consumption during operation
  • Generated equipment specifications and datasheets to obtain commercial and technical quotations for various packages from equipment vendors
  • Participated in HAZOP Study meetings, and prepared the post-HAZOP documentation (HAZOP responses and HAZOP report).

Weatherford Production & Produced Water Systems, Gloucester

Served as a senior process engineer for a study to determine the most efficient crude oil separation configuration for the Okoro East Oilfield in offshore Nigeria

  • Developed various crude oil separator configurations on a PFD and modelled each one using Apsen HYSYS.
  • Prepared a report detailing the different RVPs and heating/compressor duties for each separation configuration, and proposed the optimum configuration for client’s requirements
  • Sketched and marked up P&IDs for the draughting team to represent the equipment and piping layout of the selected configuration for the client.

Served as a senior process engineer for the detailed engineering design of a 20,000bbl/d crude, 70MMSCFD associated gas Early Production Facility (EPF) for Pan Ocean Oil Company, in onshore Nigeria:

  • Created multiple simulation scenarios using Aspen HYSYS to prepare heat and material balances to match the client's desired crude, gas and produced water flowrates, for use in calculating the required equipment sizes and including heat duties.
  • Sketched PFDs and P&IDs for the draughting team to accurately represent the EPF's process equipment and piping design.
  • Performed calculations to accurately size process equipment (two and three phase separators, pumps, control valves, blowdown valves, relief valves, storage tanks, pipelines, etc) for the EPF based on the simulation results.
  • Performed utility calculations (chemical injection, instrument air, fuel gas) required for the facility’s consumption during operation.
  • Prepared a Control & Operating philosophy to define the controls, alarms and shutdown systems used in the design of the EPF.

Served as a senior process engineer for the detailed design of a facility for the importation, storage and export of various refined petroleum products for Tema Refinery, Ghana:

  • Prepared the Process Description and Process Philosophy for the facility
  • Sketched PFDs and P&IDs for the draughting team to accurately represent the facility's equipment and piping design.
  • Performed calculations to determine in-breathing and out-breathing venting capacities for the storage tanks referencing API 650 & 2000, in order to properly determine the required relief valves.
  • Performed hydraulic calculations to determine pipeline sizes and pumps for the transportation of fuel products.
  • Participated in the Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies on the site to determine the safety integrity levels around the storage tanks.
  • Participated in HAZOP Study meetings, and prepared the post-HAZOP documentation (HAZOP responses and HAZOP report).

Served as a senior process engineer for a study to validate existing relief valves on low-pressure methanol & ethanol storage tanks for AstraZeneca, Bristol:

  • Developed multiple relief scenarios for 12 storage tanks, referencing API 650 & 2000, the P&IDs and client's process description.
  • Performed calculations for each relief scenario to obtain the venting loads from the storage tanks, and also to obtain backpressure values in the relief valve discharge lines. These were then checked against the acceptable capacities of the existing relief valves as documented by the manufacturers.
  • Generated datasheets to include data on all relief items, including relieving load calculations, pressure drop verification, and relieving stream data.
  • Updated the client's process description documentation to reflect all the changes that arose as a result of the validation study.

Served as a senior process engineer for a study to validate existing relief valves and process piping capacities on Digester tanks and Gas Holders for Yorkshire Water Services, Yorkshire.

  • Performed hydraulic studies on plant piping to determine possible points of constriction in lines.
  • Developed multiple relief scenarios for tanks and gas holders, and prepared calculations to determine the suitability of existing relief valves for the calculated relieving duties.
  • Prepared a report detailing results of the study and suggestions for improving hydraulic performance and relief valve capacities.

Served as a senior process engineer for the development of As-Built P&IDs for the Valero Airport Terminal at the East Midlands Airport.

  • Traced the equipment,  process, drains and sample lines on the main jet fuel storage tanks, and the loading and unloading filtering systems of the terminal.
  • Updated the client's PFDs, P&IDs and Piping Isometrics using the information obtained from the line and equipment trace.

Served as a process engineer for the design of a gas treatment facility for the electrification of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Nun River crude processing facility, onshore Nigeria:

  • Sketched new PFDs and P&IDs from as-built drawings to suit new project requirements.
  • Performed calculations, based on the fuel gas intrinsic properties, to determine the amount of gas required to meet the generator power demand.
  • Developed simulations to optimise the fuel gas delivery and treatment process using Aspen Hysys.
  • Performed calculations to size and specify fuel gas scrubbers, pumps, control valves, instrument air receivers and relief valves.
  • Attended and participated in design review and HAZOP meetings

Served as a process engineer on the modification of the chemical injection system for the Heating Transfer System (HTS) for the Chevron Agbami FPSO, offshore Nigeria:

  • Prepared necessary calculations required to improve the circulation of the chemicals into the HTS, including -  suction and discharge line sizing, NPSH calculations, and relief valve sizing.
  • Liaised with equipment vendors throughout the engineering phase to ensure appropriate selection of pump (size & materials).
  • Sketched PFDs and P&IDs for the draughting team to accurately represent the updated pump and piping design.
  • Prepared a Safe Working Procedure for the pumps.

Served as a process engineer for the conceptual/pre-FEED design of a 10,000 bbl/d crude, 30 MMSCFD associated gas EPF for Sterling Global Oil Resources, Ltd - Onshore Nigeria

  • Developed a conceptual process model to match the client's requirements.
  • Prepared a process simulation using Aspen HYSYS to define the crude oil separation, gas compression and oil pumping heat and mass requirements.
  • Performed hydraulic calculations to size multiphase and single-phase lines, using API and GPSA references.
  • Performed calculations to size process equipment (2 and 3 phase separators, pumps, relief valves, storage tanks, etc).

Served as a process engineer for the proposal of a new route for process safety valve (PSV) and air release valve (ARV) to be installed on the Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) unit for Chevron, onshore Nigeria

  • Assessed the flow capacities of the lines involved and sized the PSV and ARV.
  • Prepared a report confirming the calculated venting velocities of the relief valves were within the recommended API guidelines.

Served as a process engineer for a study to investigate the low flow and high back pressure issues developed on a 6" crude oil transport line for Total Nigeria, onshore Nigeria:

  • Developed a process model using Aspen HYSYS and, based on the properties of the crude and the pipeline maintenance operating procedures provided by the client, ascertained the problem was an arterial blockage.
  • Prepared a report to provide recommendations to mitigate the blockage experienced in the line.
