After some time it was like a lightbulb went off and I started seeing the world through the eyes of a coder. I felt a great sense of accomplishment and grew hungry for more so I decided to join Lighthouse Labs where I recently completed their iOS Bootcamp which teaches students the Objective-C programming language. Over the 8 week program I gained valuable hands-on experience and was able to learn from and collaborate with professional developers as well as fellow classmates. This accelerated program was an amazing challenge that taught me a variety of new concepts as well as a great deal about myself and my own capabilities.
Following the bootcamp, with my new skills and confidence in iOS I jumped into an online course to learn Swift. Because of the similarities in Objective-C and Swift, the course allowed me to review and reaffirm the concepts I learned in the iOS bootcamp while also teaching me the new syntax of Swift.
In my current role as a Jr. iOS developer at Slant, I'm responsible for writing documentation, examples and tutorials for the open source creative framework C4. The framework is written in Swift and helps simplify iOS view drawing and animation concepts. This experience has been valuable because in order to write tutorials and examples for others you need to have a firm understanding of the concepts yourself. Now, with the most confidence I've ever had in developing, I'm starting my own projects as well as looking to contribute to other great projects.
