Health and Ranging Reporter

Victoria Advocate

Developed a variety of health-related, hyper-local articles, photos and videos in the Victoria Advocate's seven-county coverage. Also began a solid health section and a quarterly health meeting with several key players in the medical community.

Also filed stories from Refugio County as a ranging reporter, the Victoria Advocate's version of a mobile journalist. The job entailed working remotely via laptop and smart phone multimedia and social media.

Have been writing according to AP style since high school. Have written more than 1,000 articles over education and post-education career. Have a knack for tightening and creating stories of all lengths.
Shot simple photos both with a point and shoot camera and SLR. Several photos have been front page worthy, but most stories at each of my jobs required minimal to intermediate photo skills for secondary photos.
Shot, edited and published video on daily stories for the Victoria Advocate. Videos ranged from raw breaking news video, which requires little editing, to a shooting an ongoing three-year long series, which required hours of editing.


To work as a reporter at a mid-size to large daily newspaper across a variety of platforms such as print and multimedia.
