Work experience

Aug 2011Present

I.T. Technical

Tolent Construction Ltd

I support approximately 200 users on a day to day basis. The role is extremely varied and covers all aspects of our in-house, database driven systems, e-mail, productivity and project management software. Within the Networking area of the business I assist in the set up and configuration of everything from simple broadband routers to more advanced Cisco routing and switches to 3G and 4G telephony and data solutions.

During my time at Tolent I have acquired a great deal of knowledge in this field. I have gelled very well with all the staff and have built up excellent rapport with both site workers and management alike. My positive, can-do attitude and always helpful approach to problem solving has helped the IT department be seen as an ally rather than the enemy.

Project Manager

Traveltek Ltd

In my previous role at Hays, as mentioned below, I helped develop a new web sales platform. This was software then written by Traveltek which is how this position came about. As one of three project managers it was my role to see a project from the day the order arrived through to completion and beyond. My role involved liaising face to face and over the telephone with the client then with our development, design, support, training and finance departments to ensure the order was delivered on time. Whilst this was technically a home based position it required extensive travel to visit customers each week.

Key Contributions:

  • Implemented internal selling system to a new client 3 weeks ahead of schedule, the 1st time this had been known.
  • My own concept, a quick, user friendly search has now been developed and incredibly well received in the trade.
  • I also helped to re-engineer some of our search technology, which has resulted in dramatic speed enhancements.

IT Support

Hays Travel

Initially recruited as a Travel Agent which I did, very successfully for four months until an internal vacancy opened up within the IT department where my role was to support users with all areas of IT from agency software, printer and network support to diagnosing broadband faults and other installing peripherals and building servers from scratch. This support role was very varied and I was a very popular member of the team. I progressed to be included in board level meetings to make decisions relating to new sales platform, website development and options relating to a new CRM system for staff to use. Developed and updated the company Intranet site and implemented various time, money and labour saving forms to achieve maximum efficiency without costs. I also helped with migrating the entire company onto a more secure Microsoft domain server platform from a unix based one. I also worked part time, from home as a Travel Agent which helped me ensure I was up to date with any campaigns and changes with suppliers I would add this to the company Intranet.

Key Contributions:

  • Instrumental in helping develop Hays new web based selling system, whilst keeping the design and development ideas intuitive from an end-users perspective.
  • Helped designed and code the company’s new look website along with a third party.
  • I was an integral part of bi-weekly conference calls with senior management and an external development team to pinpoint any issues and schedule / organise timeframes for works to be completed.

Travel Agent

Lincoln Travel (TUI)

Selling mainly TUI branded holidays to clients over the telephone in a call centre environment. The key skills required were to uphold the brand’s image, build rapport with clients and close sales whilst ensuring that all aspects of the company’s standards were met.

Key Contributions:

  •  I was regularly in the top 10% of sales agents within the office.
  •  Won TUI Top Cruise Consultant for Q3 2005.
  •  Assisted senior staff in handling complaints and awkward calls.

E-Commerce Technical Advisor

Sage Software PLC

Provided comprehensive sales training and designed websites for a new product within a well established accountancy firm. I also sold basic and advanced website design packages and domain names to Sage's loyal existing client base. Due to my technical abilities a new role was created for me as an E-Commerce Technical advisor, so I was the sole point of contact for sales, fitting in between the sales force and senior technical support, whose main role it was to support accountancy software.

Minories, Reg Vardy PLC, Town Centre Citroen, Mill Volvo(Oct 1990 - Dec 2002)

New and Used Car Sales Executive

For 11 years prior to the above position I followed (fell) into my Father's footsteps and joined the Motor Trade. I sold both new and used vehicles from a variety of manufacturers including Land Rover, Volvo, Renault and Vauxhall. As with everything I do I had a lot of pride in my job and in caring for the customer whilst retaining excellent profit margins. I received recognition for being one of the top performing Reg Vardy sales executives in 1997, winning a sailing trip and was consistently among the top executives for customer satisfaction.

I am looking for a new, fresh and exciting challenge. A place I can utilise my creative thinking, passion for technology and social media, re-ignite my natural sales ability whilst maintaining and improving my customer focused ethos.

  • Salary range:  £25k+
  • Hours of Work: Totally Flexible
  • Contract Type: Permanent or Consultancy.
  • Area of Work: Nationwide.

I've always had an unhealthy obsession with technology going way back to my 1st computer in 1981!

I tend to have the latest and greatest gadgets, phone or laptop.

I love comedy and as most human-like beings watch TV & movies, listen to a lot and a varied selection of  music.

I read a lot of books about naval warfare (which is slightly odd as I have no interest in warfare or submarines!)

I enjoy cooking and spending time with my partner and her 2 children.

I follow my local football team and we enjoy the odd pub quiz now and then.
