Senior Solutions Developer

Working collaboratively in a small team, we developed a site reporting system for Rio Tinto mines in the Hunter Valley. Its key modules include Production, Delay Accounting, Dashboards and Data Warehouse (OLAP) reporting. Utilising modern technologies including Silverlight, .NET 3.5, SQL Server (SSDB and SSAS) and OPC we delivered an easy to use and intuitive solution giving our client real time access to their plant metrics with a sleek and modern appearance.

I had significant involvement in the architecture, design and implementation of the entire project and envisioned a unique data warehouse OLAP reporting tool, utilising dynamic cube generation to virtually eliminate the need for fixed reports. This system allows users to focus on data analysis rather than fixed reports, utilizing drill down, filtering and grouping techniques to give users the information they need when they need it. The Cube reporting module was extremely well received by our clients and set our product apart from others on the market.

Technologies I worked with at Solutek include:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework (C#, windows and web)
  • Silverlight
  • SQL Server 2008 Database Services
  • SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services
  • SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services
  • OPC
  • Data Historians (PI Historian and Uniformance)
  • XML
  • VSTO
2004 - May 2011

Senior IT Systems Engineer

Developing bespoke software solutions for our clients, I worked with a large variety of technologies and developed excellent problem solving skills. Gaining exposure to a wide spectrum of industries including Mining, Metals, Manufacturing, Finance and Civil; I developed strong requirements gathering skills and focussed on delivering the right solutions on time and on budget.

Noting that most of our solutions worked around Microsoft SQL Server databases and often had similar requirements, I developed a set of automatic code generation tools (SQL and C#), and an application framework that significantly reduced development time and coding errors while providing a rich set of standard application features.

Below is a sample of projects I worked on and the key technologies involved:

  • Cognyx Commissioning database (.NET Forms, WCF, SQL Server, SSRS),
  • Tomago Aluminium (ASP.NET, SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, Citect SCADA, Citect Historian, Citect AMPLA, Crystal Reports)
  • Alfabs Engineering (.NET Forms, SQL Server, SSRS)
  • Pioneer Road Services (.NET Forms, SQL Server, WWF, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Classic ASP)
  • Partnercorp Financial Planning (ASP.NET, SQL Server, VSTO)
  • Wilson Mining Services (VBA, Microsoft Access, SQL Server)
  • PrimatecQDA Job Management (.NET Windows Forms, SQL Server, SSRS)
1999 - 2003

Software Engineer

Computer Systems Australia

While studying at the University of Newcastle, I worked part time and completed my UNISS work placement obligations with Computer Systems Australia. Primarily working with various Hunter Valley mine sites I developed and maintained several Lotus Notes work-flow applications. I also completed the required training and obtained the appropriate Lotus Notes certifications.

Citect AMPLA

AMPLA is a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) developed by Citect. This involves significant requirement gathering stages and often requires integration of data between many disparet systems.

Citect SCADA

Maintaining SCADA systems and developing functionality primarily for data collection and exporting to databases.

SQL Server

Proficient in all aspects of SQL server design, development and performance optimization with exceptional skills in T-SQL, Database Design, Analysis Services Reporting Services and Integration Services

.NET Framework

Developing custom solutions using a variety of the .NET framework technologies including Windows Forms, ASP.NET, Silverlight, Windows Communication Framework, Windows Workflow Foundation and Windows Presentation Foundation.

1999 - 2003

Computer Science

University of Newcastle

In 1998 I completed year 12 with a UAI score of 90.1 and gained acceptance into the University of Newcastle to study Software Engineering. I also gained a UNISS scholarship sponsored by Computer Systems Australia.

During my studies I was able to not only fulfill the work experience obligations of the scholarship but work part time with Computer Systems Australia.
