Encompass Home Health

I spent 2 years and 4 months with Encompass Home Health as a field LPN. I gained much experience and knowledge working in the ever growing home health industry. Independence and sharp assessment skills including an exceptional knowledge of normal and abnormal geriatric conditions is a must to perform well and I believe I accomplished these and more while working at Encompass. I enjoyed caring for many patients, from diabetics with daily insulin injections, to post op patients with wound care. I administered insulin, IV meds, monitored and provided teaching and training for various types of wound care, special diet teaching, medication teaching, provided personal grooming care, home safety tips, and sometimes I just sat and listened when my patients needed a friendly ear.

Duncan Regional Hospital

During my employment with Encompass, I took a second job at Duncan Regional Hospital to help furthur my career and to gain knowledge and experience in a hospital setting. Duncan Regional is a small hospital but extremely busy and fast-paced. During my 12 hour shifts I was responsible for as many as 6 med-surg patients, administering meds and various medical treatments, caring for IV pumps and other equipment, caring for pre-op and post-op patients, effectively communicating with physicians, nurses, students, and other staff members. I also learned to chart on computer and how to use the computerized, locked med carts and electronic medication scanners. I gained a wealth of knowledge during my stay at Duncan Regional, but I left to continue my home health career after Encompass' patient census began to increase.

Private Duty LPN

Personal Nursing Care Inc.

I chose Personal Nursing Care as my first employer after obtaining my license because of the wonderful experiences I had on a pediatric clinical rotation at Bethany Children's Hospital. With Personal Nursing Care I learned a great deal about taking care of physically challenged pediatric patients. I took care of a toddler with cerebral palsy who had a tracheostomy and PEG tube. I administered meds and tube feedings daily, provided stimulation and excercise with compassion and caring. This was an extremely challenging yet rewarding experience for me as a new nurse and I left in search of new training to sharpen the skills learned during nursing school.

Oct 2004 - Mar 2006

Medical Assistant

Five Oaks Medical Group

During nursing school I was learning on the job at Five Oaks Medical Group, a department of Grady Memorial Hospital as a medical assistant. I spent most of my time in pediatrics assisting 2 doctors, answering phones/making appointments, checking in patients, taking vital signs, administering vaccinations, taking throat/nose cultures, and caring for sick and well babies to teenagers. I also floated to other departments in the clinic such as family practice and internal medicine, wherever I was needed. This also is a very fast-paced environment requiring excellent organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, various medical office skills and effectively communicating with physicians and patients are among the many areas in which I learned to excel. I probably would have stayed permanently after graduation had there been an LPN position available at the time.

I completed 1 semester of freshman coursed at Oklahoma City Community College in 2002-2003.

Chickasha High School

I graduated high school in 1995 with a college prep diploma.

During my career as a nursing student I participated in the local chapter of HOSA, Health Occupations Students of America for 2 years. I was also secretary of HOSA  for 1 year and competed at the fall leadership conference winning 2nd place in pharmacology at the state level. I received an OTAG scholarship as well. I graduated in January 2006 with over a 99% chance of passing boards according to pre-NCLEX testing. I received my LPN license in March 2006.
