Children's Medical Center
  • Completed over 50 coloring books in an hour.
  • Supervised kids while playing with them.
  • Called to confirm appointments for the following day so they don't have to do it for the day and dedicate more time to the patients.
  • Delivered supplies to different departments preventing from shortages and not to place orders that will take a longer time to carry out.
  • Counted, updated, and organized products in the Omni Cells located in the surgery rooms.
  • Went to the dock and picked up supplies to be un-packaged and sorted out to be delivered to their appropriate location.
  • Took out cardboard to be thrown away in the dumpsters at the dock.
  • Went around outside of the operating rooms and placed boxes of different types of masks, soap, and sponges.
  • This program is in partnership of the Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services Practicum in Human Services I and II Program.
  • Assists nurses at the Day Surgery Department.


Maime Brown, Children's Medical Center

Nora excelled inn the Operating Room areas of stocking and receiving supplies. Also in counting Omni Cells/ Par Locations. It has been a pleasure working with Nora. I hope she can come back and volunteer with us again.

Nora Candelaria is a hard working student who always gives her best effort in class. She is very organized and completes work in a timely manner; I highly recommend her without reservation at all in any endeavor that she chooses. Nora is willing to put the time in to hone her skills and is not easily discouraged. She always gives her 100% of herself and actively participates in all class activities and discussions.

    • This event was held at the Dallas Convention Center.

    • Filled out sheets with the homeless to get gifts.
    • Directed the homeless to where they could pick up the gifts.
  • Townview Magnet Fair (January 2014- December 2014)
    • Represented my school among the 6 schools.
    • Talked to prospective students about the school and my experience.
    • Informed the students about the deadlines of the application process.
    • Volunteered twice for a total of 4 hours.
  • North Texas Food Bank (March 2014)
    • Made boxes of snacks for children.
    • Got rid of snacks whose packages were damaged or expired.
    • Served for 2.5 hours.
  • For the Love of the Lake (April- November 2014)
    • Picked up trash and recyclable items along the lake's shore and park.
    • Lake that we cleaned was White Rock Lake.
    • Served on two occasions with a total of 6 hours.
  • Mundo Latino at the State Fair (October 2014)
    • In part of the LULAC of Dallas.
    • Helped sell chocolate and drinks to fund raise for LULAC scholarships.
    • Fundraiser took place at the State Fair of Texas at the Mundo Latino building.
    • Helped for 5 hours.
  • Soul's Harbor (November 2014)
    • Helped clean a thrift store that economically supports men living at the shelter while recovering from addictions.
    • Served a total of 4 hours.
  • Keep Townview Beautiful (December 2014)
    • This event took place at my local school.
    • Cleaned several classrooms.
    • Volunteered for an hour.
  • Cena en el Barrio (December 2014)
    • Collected cans.
    • Went to North Texas Food Bank and made packages of food with other LULAC councils.
    • Helped split up all food items to have each LULAC council distributed.
    • Went to Casa Trevino, a nursery home to deliver food to 80 elderly people.
    • Served for 6 hours.
  • MetroPCS Dallas Marathon (December 2014)
    • Helped to set up the water booths along the 11th mile mark.
    • Prepared Gatorade and served cups of drinks.
    • Handed out drinks and oranges to the participants.
