I'm often asked what sparked my interest in reporting.  As far back as I can remember, I was the kid who always asked "why?".  I used to write short stories about the people who lived on my tree-lined street.  I was destined to grow up to be either your nosey neighbor next door, or a journalist.  I chose the latter!  I am still telling stories.

I am a multiple award-winning TV journalist with 18 years experience in TV news.  I've been awarded the coveted Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards several times over for my creative, out-of-the-box writing and reporting.  I am a skilled multi-tasker who works well under pressure with a smile on my face!

Those skills are as valuable in a newsroom as they are in the offices of companies trying to get the media's attention. I am looking for that next opportunity and ready to walk through that open door, wherever in the world it takes me.

I've had a golf club in my hands since I was six.  Though I don't play frequently anymore, I still have a swing that will fool you into thinking I'm still that girl who tried out for and made the boys' golf team in high school!

I love to cook and have friends over to enjoy the meal.  Because I love to cook, and eat... it's a good thing I'm also an avid runner and cyclist.  I've done marathons and triathlons and multi-day distance cycle events.

If I'm not doing any of the above, you can find me at the beach relaxing by the ocean or riding the waves on a longboard!

Jul 2008 - Present

Freelance Reporter

KPIX is the CBS Network-owned station in San Francisco.

2005 - 2008

Reporter / Fill-in Anchor

NBC News

I spent 3 1/2 years at the NBC network-owned station in the beautiful Bay Area.  My writing and reporting garnered the station 7 awards.  The work I am most proud of is long-form reporting, much of it done on my and the photographer's own time outside of our "work hours".  I also filled in on the anchor desk and emceed numerous charity events.

2004 - 2005

Freelance Reporter/KNBC

NBC News

KNBC is the NBC network-owned station in Los Angles.  My stint there was a homecoming of sorts for me, and a chance to live closer to family in Southern California.  I reported for the 11pm newscasts on a variety of stories from Hollywood glitz to gang violence to brush fires.  There is rarely a dull moment in LA!  The fast-paced environment helped me hone the ability to multi-task and think quickly on my feet.

2000 - 2004

Morning Anchor / Special Projects Reporter

CBS News

WCCO is the CBS network-owned station in the Twin Cities.  I started as a reporter for the daily 5 and 6 o'clock newscasts covering stories from flash floods to snow storms.  Former pro-wrestler turned politician, Jesse Ventura, was Governor at the time too, so there was no shortage of stories!  A couple of years into my first contract with the station, I was promoted to morning anchor and given a reporter slot in the special projects unit.  That is where I won the first of many awards for the station and received an Emmy nomination for my anchoring.  The station's staff of top-notch photojournalists was a good match for my brand of storytelling.  They stretched my creativity in ways that stay with me today.  On a lighter note, living in Minneapolis also taught me I can handle just about any kind of weather.  I've never lived in a place that can be both so cold in the winter, and so hot in the summer!

Though "editor" has never been my job title, it is a skill I learned by necessity in my first job.  I have an eye pictures and an ear for pacing.  I'm more skills at straight cut linear editing, but also edit my own personal projects on my non-linear Mac edit system.

Script or no script, I'll talk until you tell me to be quiet!  I am quick on my feet and comfortable in front of a crowd or a camera.

I'm comfortable with all kinds of people from all walks of life.  I think that's the basic truth that gets me in the door and makes the interviewee comfortable talking with me.  The key isn't just asking the right questions, it's also being a good listener.  More often than not, listening gives me the questions to ask.

Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award winning writer.  I can whip out compelling copy under the gun of a tight deadline, or spend days crafting a feature piece to make it sing.  My love for the craft goes way back... I even won a few creative writing contests as a kid!
