Objective

To earn a career encompassing the field of recreation where I can share my expertise in sports and a love for the outdoors with the people who seek it.

Summary

I am currently the Youth Wellness & Sports Program Coordinator at the Glens Falls Family YMCA. I have been at this position since April of 2012 and have been a sports instructor there since fall of 2010. I have performed a number of services for this organization since. I have developed and helped market numerous youth and adult sports and wellness programs from soccer and basketball to trail running and hiking.

Right off the bat I was given the task of hiring and training employees to run our summer sports camps. We ended up surpassing our last year's participation by almost 15%. My soccer academy which I organize and help coach is constantly growing in numbers. We compete against the best teams from the capital region and are ranked highly in the standings every season. I am bringing in additional revenue by creating tournaments and clinics in soccer and racquetball. I am constantly looking for new programs to offer our community and better ways to deliver them.

Before this, I was given the opportunity to head up a first year children’s camp in the Town of Moreau. I worked closely with administrators from the Department of Health to develop a comprehensive one hundred and fifty page camp safety plan. Last spring I designed the new program brochure and added several new programs to the itinerary; one which has been very much unchanged for over ten years.

I obtained my B.S. degree at SUNY Brockport. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with an overall GPA of 3.6 and a major GPA of 3.9. I participated in several volunteer activities like organizing games at special events and introducing speakers at conferences. I also served as the Activities Director for the Recreation and Leisure Club. My final test was a semester long internship at Paul Smith's College. While completing my internship I created, organized, and ran all intramural sport activities while at the same time leading weekend hiking trips and assisting both college soccer teams.

Although I am quite content with my current situation I am looking to explore other opportunities. I have been fortunate to be given such opportunities within the first couple years after graduating from college and have met those opportunistic challenges with nothing but success. I know that I, given the right opportunity, would give it everything that I have. I am relatively young and full of enthusiasm and ideas. My determination to establish myself in the field of Recreation and Leisure could be what your organization needs. I hope that you may feel the same.

Camp Director

Moreau Community Center

Using the Master Safety Plan I started developing in my internship with the Town of Moreau I planned a first year children's summer camp. I had to follow strict Department of Health guidelines to develop this camp conceptually and then carry it out. I trained and supervised the staff throughout the summer while running some of the camp sessions as needed. We had as many as 50 children in one week. The camp still runs to this day.

Hiking/Backpacking

I have been an avid hiker and backpacker since 2004. Since then I have been accumulating backpacking gear, exploring new terrain, and learning about proper backpacking technique and etiquette. While doing my internship at Paul Smith's I helped lead multiple hiking, backpacking, and canoeing trips in the Adirondack High Peak Region.
