Nijad Fares emigrated from Lebanon to the United States in 1981. He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Denver before moving to Houston, where he currently lives. Nijad Fares is dedicated to contributing positively to his city and the United States.Mr. Fares currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the American Task Force for Lebanon, and formerly acted as the organization’s first President. He also connects Houston to the world through his work with the Mayor’s Advisory Board for International Affairs and Development. He has participated in a number of other groups, including the Houston Katrina Relief Fund Board and the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund Board. Locally, Mr. Fares has contributed as the Mayor of Houston’s representative to the Houston Police Officers’ Pension System.On a global level, Nijad Fares joined the Host Committee for the U.S.-Arab Economic Forum. The 2006 Houston event brought thousands of government representatives, academics, and business leaders together from around the world.His charitable efforts have garnered him several accolades throughout the years. In 2011, Nijad Fares received a Legion of Honor Award from the government of Mexico for his contributions to community service. Most recently, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him a Knight of The Papal Order of St. Gregory for his service around the globe. Mr. Fares earned renown for his charitable and humanitarian contributions.
