Nicola Turilli

My name is Nicola Turilli.  I am a qualified teacher living in Airlie Beach, Queensland. I am currently employed at St. Catherine's College where I teach 4th Grade and prior to that I have taught at Nelson Intermediate School where I taught year 7 students. I have worked at Salisbury School, Nelson, where I taught teenage girls with complex learning and behavioural needs and Lower Moutere School which is based on the fringe of the Abel Tasman National Park.  I have strengths in behaviour management, relationship building and literacy, and thrive on helping others to succeed.

I encourage and guide my students in finding their strengths and going after their passions. I enjoy inspiring my students to take up every opportunity that comes their way and I get very excited to see their progress. I plan purposeful, engaging, practical lessons for my students which opportunities to apply and transfer their new knowledge.

Relationships and Partnerships

Teaching is all about the students. Therefore establishing authentic relationships with them is essential to help them to feel safe and respected and set them up for positive learning experiences. In addition developing relationships with the students promotes strong self esteem and makes them feel valued and cared for – and thus provides a solid foundation for their learning.

Learning Environment and Management

Children have the right to a warm and secure learning environment when they’re at school and I aim to create a caring and supportive atmosphere in which all children can learn and develop. In addition to this I believe that children should be provided with an exciting, challenging and positive learning environment in which all needs are met socially, emotionally and academically. My objective is to help each child reach his or her full potential by giving them opportunities to develop the Key Competencies and guide them towards becoming independent, life-long learners and problem solvers.
In regards to classroom management I am firm but positive and expect children to respect the rights and dignities of others. My experiences with children have taught me to be consistent, empathetic, show unconditional warmth and seek the deeper causes of disruptive behaviour and help the child to manage them.

I am committed to learner-centred teaching in which learning needs are based on careful, purposeful and on-going monitoring that forms the basis of all planning.

Collaborative Planning

I value working as a team member and look forward to sharing and exchanging teaching ideas and resources, and developing positive working relationships with members of staff and school communities. I hope to draw from the experiences and innovations of other teachers and plan to continue to develop professionally in all areas of the school environment.
