In nearly 15 years of service as a volunteer firefighter in Great Neck, New York, Nick Nabavian, who is qualified as an interior firefighter, also operated rescue vehicles in many capacities. Since he joined the Vigilant Engine Hook and Ladder Company in 1996, he has qualified as a first-due engine operator as well as heavy rescue, light rescue, and aerial ladder truck operator. In his elected capacities, he has served as Financial Secretary as well as a member of the Board of Trustees. He was a volunteer firefighter until 2010. Today, Nick Nabavian works at Nikia, a Great Neck-based jewelry store where he has served as the President and in-house gemologist since its establishment in 1983. A recipient of the Graduate Gemologist credential, he graduated from the Gemological Institute of America, receiving certifications in jewelry sales, retail jewelry, color stone identification, and diamond identification, all of which have benefited his operation of a retail jewelry business. A graduate of Great Neck’s John L. Miller Great Neck North High School, Nick Nabavian first opened Nikia as an undergraduate student at Stony Brook University, where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and double minors in Geology and Business Administration in 1986. A resident of Great Neck, Nick Nabavian is an active member of his local temple, attending services regularly and donating his time to its security team and fundraising efforts. He also counts the donation of blood marrow through the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation among his charitable causes.
