Neil McNeely is an IT professional with experience and expertise over a broad range of industries and systems, with roles including IT Director, Systems Architect, Senior Consulting, Systems Engineering, Project Management, and Sales/Marketing. Neil is currently working as a Systems Architect and SharePoint Architect for the County of Montgomery, Virginia.
Prior to his current engagement, Neil was with Microsoft Corporation for almost 3 years as a Senior Consultant in the Microsoft Services Group. He worked within the Navy Marine Corps Services Business on large-scale multi-tenant SharePoint environments. Neil was also engaged in Microsoft’s commercial sector with work on enterprise knowledge management and taxonomy solutions for large financial institutions. He has performed large-scale sizing and configuration planning for SharePoint enterprise systems.
Neil’s current focus is SharePoint Online, SharePoint 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007, Office 365, Yammer and Azure. Since 2007, Neil has been involved with the SharePoint platform, starting with MOSS 2007 design and administration of a world-wide portal for a large pharmaceutical company. He also was involved in the planning, design and deployment of a large-scale SharePoint farm for the U.S. Army. In the Navy / Marine Corps commands, he deployed several large-scale farms and performed many migrations from earlier SharePoint versions. Neil is a regular volunteer at SharePoint Saturdays across the mid-Atlantic.
Neil held the position of IT Director for Southampton Memorial Hospital in southeast Virginia, now a part of Community Health System, Inc., where he established the IT department, transitioning it from the finance department, and managing all aspects and vendors for the department. The advent of the Internet Age in the mid 90’s took Neil’s entrepreneurial spirit into the commercial ISP business, selling access, web hosting, shopping cart ecommerce systems and other related services. He set up the first in-house online ecommerce and shopping cart systems for Smithfield Foods (Smithfield Hams). Neil also designed and deployed an automated offshore drilling activity information gathering system in Singapore and the South China Sea for Esso (ExxonMobil).
Other previous engagements include the University of Texas Medical Branch, Network Solutions, U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), National Institute of Health (NIH), National Weather Service (AWIPS), U.S. Senate, Modea, Aeroprobe Corporation, and other institutions.
Neil has 25+ years of experience in information technology, covering many aspects of IT within other industries, including government, defense, healthcare, education, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, sales, marketing, retail, and food. His experience includes programming, design, network management and administration, architecture and management. He has a passion for taxonomy and information architecture. Neil currently holds CompTIA Security+ and a recent TS/SSBI clearance.
