Real Estate, Property Development, Property Management

Real estate developer Nefrette Halim renovates high-end residences in Chicago, Illinois, and Paris, France, catering to a select, referral-based clientele. Known for her experience with vintage properties and exacting standards of artisanship, Nefrette Halim imbues new life into old homes and apartments, bringing them up to modern standards while retaining the charm of period architectural details. One of Nefrette Halim’s specialties is the refurbishment of apartments constructed during the Belle Époque period, which covers the years between the late 19th century and the start of the First World War. For such projects, Ms. Halim obtains historically appropriate materials ranging from windows to reclaimed woods. Well versed in both antique and mid-century modern furniture styles, and an amateur art collector as well, she can also suggest furnishings to enhance the beauty of a renovated property. In addition to developing residential properties, Nefrette Halim fulfills the roles of designer and co-curator for the Halim Time and Glass Museum in Evanston, Illinois. Scheduled to open in 2013, the museum will feature a large collection of timepieces and stained glass windows within 20,000 square feet of space, which includes a cafe, banquet hall, and rooftop terrace. Nefrette Halim’s professional success is grounded in her education in the humanities. She graduated summa cum laude with a liberal arts degree from Lake Forest College, where she concentrated her studies on literature and writing. From there, she went on to earn a Master of Arts in the Humanities at the University of Chicago. Outside of her career pursuits, Nefrette Halim nurtures an array of cultural interests. She enjoys classical music, opera, collecting art, and studying modern and historical architecture. Previously a professor teaching writing and literature, she also contributes to charitable causes dedicated to educating children in the arts.
