Greeted & registered patients for various medical services in the hospital setting and in a highly active fast paced setting such as the Emergency dept. Completed comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews w/ Patient to obtain pertinent demographic information, insurance data and/or third party liability information. Performed complex eligibility verification & resolves any discrepancies, identified need for financial assistance recommendation & application. Verified Insurance Eligibility & Benefits (include policy limitations) for all payers prior to or upon admission to the hospital, using computer based verification programs. For Medicare, using approved system to determine eligibility, co-insurance days, lifetime reserve days etc& notify Utilization Mgmt when a patient will be utilizing his/her lifetime reserve days. Interviewed patient to obtain/determine appropriate insurance carrier & identifies, verifies, & inputs Other Coverage Information (OCI), primary, secondary, & tertiary payers for services provided. Performed registration function for all patient class & clinical services. Completed admission protocol for allied hospitals. Maintained recurring/series patient files & preforms co-preadmission functions. Maintained & completes pre-admission processes for surgical admission in preparation for date of service. Collects cost-shares, & partial payments for services to be received. May schedule and/or cancel right type of appointment based on member's needs & regional protocol. Completed regulatory or policy required forms & obtains all necessary signatures via mail, pre-admit, pre-op visit or upon admission/ registration. Fully understands & adheres to the rules & regulations of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care & Commercial payers regarding referrals, preauthorization & pre-certification requirements. Ensured optimal bed placement for all admissions and internal transfer at the direction of the Hospital Administrative Supervisor (HAS). Responsible for coordinating and implement the admission, discharge and transfer of all patients currently admitted. Arrived various types of admissions including Labor and Delivery, Surgery, CT, MRI, NICU, etc. Controlled visitation to locked units within hospital. Checked scheduled for surgery, mental health, and hospital admission. Rescheduled patient appointments. Answered multiline phones. Faxed. Added coverage to patient charts. Provide & request info of other depts & external firms. Assist other staff members & providers as needed to ensure orderly & efficient patient care. Receive patients during check-in & check-out process. Maintain current daily schedule. Document arrivals, cancellations, reschedules, etc. Instruct new patients to fill out Health Questionnaire & Personal Data Form. Determine, explain & collect all frees for services rendered in accord w/ the individual patient's benefits, the Program's published fee schedule, & the cash handling policy.
Collect & review visit slips for proper completion & patients' treatment status. Confirm future appointments. Enter all visit slip data into the computer regarding treatment that was done, what was paid, billed, or waived, & further treatment that is needed.Schedule patients' appointments w/ providers. Cancel & reschedule appointments as necessary. Respond to chart requests made throughout the day. Screen requests for emergency schedules & appointments according to established guidelines. Receive calls for office staff. Take & relay messages according to office policy. Assist in maintaining a clean & neat reception area & lounge. Check, bundle & return records to Dental Record Center. Complete a retained chart form for any charts held at facility. Balance cash drawer, complete bank deposit & perform other cash duties. Receive patient telephone calls & schedule initial & return appointments according to established guidelines and/or existing treatment plans.
