Summary

For nearly 25 years, National Relief Charities has worked to serve the needs of Native Americans living on 65 reservations throughout the Plains and the Southwestern United States. Through a partnership network of more than 1,000 reservation programs, National Relief Charities provides for 250,000 Native Americans each year. National Relief Charities uses a modernized warehouse and distribution system to deliver over five million pounds of aid to isolated reservations that some charitable organizations have difficulty reaching. National Relief Charities relies on its partners to identify the specific aid a community needs so that the organization can deliver supplies that directly help the people who live there. Through individual and corporate donations, National Relief Charities provides such necessities as food, water, produce, school supplies, shampoo, toilet paper, linens, blankets, and winter clothing, as well as a host of hands-on community services. National Relief Charities seeks to reduce immediate need and supports long-term solutions, while also strengthening and supporting existing reservation programs and services. To accomplish this goal, National Relief Charities teams with reservation members who possess a first-hand knowledge of their communities and initiatives that are underway or have community support. National Relief Charities also strengthens these program partners by mentoring them to work with available outside resources, network with other tribal programs, organize and advertise events, and encourage volunteerism. National Relief Charities focuses on reservations located in remote areas that have limited access to transportation and services such as healthcare and stores for essential goods. National Relief Charities also clearly defines their criteria for a given group targeted to receive service, taking factors such as age and the geographic area of its reservation partners into consideration so that no one demographic within a community or tribe feels unfairly treated or favored. National Relief Charities provides written expectations to its reservation partners, clearly explaining what they will supply and what actions they expect in return; this helps ensure accountability and stewardship.
