Summary

I am 22 years old. I was born in Tulsa, Okla. and have lived here all my life. I have done many things and been many places. I love to travel and one day I hope to have been to all the continents excluding Antarctica.

Though I haven't worked within my degree field I have worked at a lot of places. What I lack in experience I make up for in my work ethic. I am an extremely hard worker and I do my best in all that I do. I have been doing some form of work since I was 11. I began baby-sitting my younger siblings, cousins and neighborhood kids. I spent two summers when I was 13 and 14 as a nanny. I also have done a lot of volunteer and mission work. As soon as I was able I began volunteering for my grandmother’s organization. Then in middle school during the summer I did an outreach program in North Tulsa with my youth group. We did everything from clean houses and streets to painting buildings and playing with the less fortunate kids in poor North Tulsa neighborhoods. After eighth-grade I went on my first Mission Trip to Mexico where for the next four summer s I helped build houses for the homeless. It was a very touching experience and the things I saw in Mexico have changed my life forever.

My senior year of High School I saved all year to go with a group from school on a trip to Europe. I paid the majority of my trip on my own. We were gone a little over three weeks. I have also traveled to all but 31 of the states. Before I turn 30 my goal is see all of the 48 main states.

I am a very goal oriented person. I like to make to do lists. It gives me a happy giddy feeling when I complete a task and am able to cross it off my list.

I work very hard in school just like I do in my personal and professional life. I am currently putting myself thru college with the assistance of financial aid. I am completely financially independent of my parents and grandparents. I was told that if I decided to pursue a higher education I would have to do it without the financial support of my family.

I have overcome obstacles in life. When I was an infant I lost 98 percent of my hearing and I had to have three major surgeries to try and correct the hearing loss. They were able to correct most of my hearing, but I was learning to speak I had a speech impediment. My ch words turned into fu words. As a toddler and most of my young childhood I had to go to hours of speech therapy a day to relearn how to talk. I over came this adversity, when I was younger I would get frustrated because I couldn’t say certain things so I would look up other words to replace the one I was trying to use; thus providing me with the advantage of having a wider vocabulary and a higher reading level than most people my age.As I got older life just got harder. My younger sister suffers from many medical problems putting a strain on my family life. When I was around ten my older brother started doing hard core drugs when has impacted my life still to this day. However, life has also taught me many great lessons one of them being that without struggle I wouldn’t be who I am today.

My hero is without a doubt my sister. Life dealt her a bad set of cards, but she has played the game of life to the best of her ability. She is able to find reasons to laugh every day. She has taught me to find reasons to laugh in the worst of situations and never to give up. I would be a completely different person had I not known her.
