My name is Jessica (but please just call me Jessi), I am a student at the University of Oregon, majoring in public relations and minoring in biology.  I am in my final year of my undergraduate degree; I couldn't be more excited to move into "the real world" and finally put all of my knowledge to use.

I am a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, where I am on the communications team.  The communications team is currently focusing on rebranding the UO PRSSA image and maintaing social media outlets.  I am on a team of five participating in the nation-wide competition conducted by PRSSA, called the Bateman Case Study. (Read more about the Bateman case study here.)  For my final undergraduate term, I've been accepted into a program called the Portland Senior Experience.  This means that during spring 2011 I will be living in Portland, going to school, and gaining more professional experience.

I am a driven and organized individual that truly enjoys the field of public relations.  I am interested in agency and in-house public relations and my favorite aspect of public relations is the social media element.

Through my schooling, I have used social media press release sites (such as pitch engine), I have analyzed public relations campaigns, I have written public relations plans, and I have written social media proposals.  You can check out some of my work below.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Marketing/Public Relations Intern

Oregon International Air Show

At the Oregon International Air Show my duties extended past my title.  In this fast-paced environment I learned how to perform expected duties, while helping out wherever I was needed.  The long hours included weekends, where I would set up booths and hand out collateral and more on the Air Show's behalf.  At the end of it all, I was exhausted, but I couldn't have been happier with my experience.  Some of my duties included:

  • Updated website with copy, photographs, links and more
  • Maintained Facebook presence and managed MailChimp account to send email blasts to customers, volunteers, and sponsors
  • Aided in copy and design for collateral while communicated with a remote contract design team
  • Managed local television, radio, and print media to execute a timely media schedule and comply with sponsor contractual agreements
