Attending middle and high school in Southern California, I undoubtedly grew up in somewhat of a bubble. The summers consisted of going to the beach, surfing, or spending time at the pool and the school years were consumed by high school football season and weekend barbeques. I decided fairly quickly during high school that I wanted to break the mold and go to college somewhere that would teach more than just what you learn from a professor in a classroom. I wanted to experience a new culture, a new environment. I wanted to meet new people, and develop myself into a person that could communicate well with anyone of any background or upbringing. Now, four years later, I can tell you with complete certainty that Purdue University helped me achieve exactly what I had hoped for. The culturally diverse and hardworking atmosphere that Purdue University strives to uphold is why my four years were so rewarding. Through taking classes in a variety of subjects, completing two internships, joining Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity, and playing rugby for Purdue, I have become a well-rounded, motivated individual with an ever growing desire to succeed.
Graduating with a B.A. in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations accompanied by minors in political science and anthropology I know that I am prepared to dive into the professional world. I have worked hard I believe that I have had the proper training and instruction on how to succeed in a professional environment. As a Communications Intern for the Arlington County Manager's Office in Arlington, Virginia during the summer of 2009 I was thrown into one of the most culturally diverse environments that our country has to offer and I took the opportunity to soak up every ounce of information that I could find. I wrote press releases about current affairs in our nation's capital, sat in on congressional meetings on Capitol Hill, and reported the community news on the Arlington Virginia Network. I met and worked with people from every corner of the world and learned to effectively communicate with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Along with having the opportunity to polish my verbal communication skills I was also given the chance to focus on my writing skills, which I did with enthusiasm. Arlington, Virginia taught me a great deal about what it takes to succeed in a demanding environment.
I feel that with my skills and passions I would be an invaluable asset to your company and I look forward to embracing your organization's culture. This portfolio is meant to show you what I have learned, what I have achieved, and how I have used my education and personality to build meaningful relationships. I hope that you find this as informative as possible. I would be honored to address any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank You!
Sincerely,
Michael Weis
