My work in journalism publication has crossed the barriers of interpersonal communications in many ways. Press releases, e-newsletters, media kits, public relations projects, and general blog content on various subjects and events have made their way into the norm. Not to mention the trending Social Media platforms... Next stop: Twitter pitches!

Editorial Design

Indesign, Layout, Content. In the newsroom at CWU I  have learned much about design and copy. Creativity has been instrumental in this four-year study and resulted in my development as a design and content editor. I learn more from my mentors in the industry every day.

A skill I have been tweaking for my Non Profit Minor.

Interviewer

I list this as a skill as I have really come to value the ability to get an open channel with people and professionals and turn it into a submersion journalism experience and then write it down in 350 to 1000 words. I always audio record my subjects for full attention to the interview-this has worked very well for me.

This is just a skill that I have developed as needed for college publications that has really become an asset to my college journo experience.

Los Angeles Collegian

City College provided my first work in the newsroom. In 2010, The Collegian (bi-monthly print newspaper) won seven JACC, SPJ, and College Journalism Affiliate Awards. Three of the awards obtained were for feature stories that I wrote while on staff. An additional award was obtained for my writing a year later for "Best Feature Story" at the JACC Convention in Irvine, Calif.
