Smith Mathieu

On the computing side, I have had a long interest in software development that began with an AP Computer Science course (Java) in high school and has continued with several courses at the UVa where I used the Eclipse IDE for Java development and the Android Platform where my team created a parking application for mobile devices using Java and XML.Currently I am using PHP and SQL to develop database driven web applications. In addition, I have set up several home wireless networks and have built my last three computers (desktop and laptop) from component parts.

Problem-solving is a fundamental aspect of systems and electrical engineering that has great appeal to me.I have enjoyed working on two team design projects: an electric car design project and a systems housing project. In both cases our design teams used the systems approach to problem solving to solve a complex problem.Outside of class, I am currently working with the Hoos Flying Aero Design Team to design, build, and fly a radio controlled airplane for the Lockheed/SAE Aero Design competition.
