Artistic/Drawing/Design Talent

Prior to college, I took 2 consecutive art classes.  I also took a fashion and interior design class.  I have received many awards and prizes from art shows and competitions, as well as had honorary artwork displayed at the Board of Education for Jefferson County and at the Botanical Garden's art show.  I truly enjoy painting and drawing tremendously.

Administrative/Organization/Planning/People Skills

Ever since I was young, I have always been very good at organizing people, events, information, etc.  I am a schedule fanatic, and love to plan everything down to a 'T'.  I am a problem solver and I love to brainstorm possible solutions and ideas.  I am a very outgoing person, and I'm easy to get along with.  I am good at listening to people and seeing their point of view.  I like to make and build relationships with people, and I like to take care of their concerns.  I am a very involved peron, and I take interest in being a part of organizations and groups of people, as well as doing my work to the best of my ability.

Journalism Skills

For 2 years of highschool, I was on our school's Literary Magazine staff.  It was a magazine that students could publish themselves and their work throughout their highschool career.  By being on the staff, I learned how to use Photoshop & InDesign very well.  I also learned how to manage deadlines and people under stress.

Multimedia/Web Design

I have taken a course on multimedia design as well as web design prior to attending college.  I know how to make publications and have recently created my own website.  It is It is still under construction, but continue to check back to see my progress and to find helpful food/meals tips!

Microsoft Office Skills

Over the past few years, I have learned how to use all the Microsoft Office Programs, including the newest additions on Windows 7.  I can use them very efficiently and I am very computer savy.

Computer Programming

Through my dad's computer buisness, I learned to build computers from the inside out including programming.  I can fix most problems and am very technologically inclined.

My reasons for desiring to specialize in diabetics and diabetic athletes is derived from the unexpected passing of my grandmother, affectionately known as "Nonnie".  She was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes, (Type 1), at a very young age, and over the years, suffered many health problems as a result of this disease.  I know that if newer technology and better resources had been available, her quality of life would have been significantly different, and that very sad day would not have come so soon.  This type of diabetes has no cure, and in our family it skips a generation.  Because of this, my mother has always emphasized and stressed to my sister and I the importance of watching what we eat to keep from developing this terrible disease.  But for those who already living with it, like my Nonnie, I hope to promote awareness of it's impact on life, as well as show them how what they eat can drastically change the rate at which it progresses, or possibly even clear it up all together.

My mission and goal is to build solid relationships with my clients in order to walk with them through this disease so that it does not hinder their life any more than can be prevented.  I plan to give guidence in meal planning and food choices so that these people will live healthier, longer lives, as well as educate them on what it means to have diabetes and how they can live more normal lives even as a diabetic.

Allow Me To Introduce Myself...

Hi!My name is Megan Graves and I am a student of the University of Alabama.  I am striving to graduate with a degree in Food & Nutrition, and hope to become a Registered Dietition in the very near future.  I also hope to specialize in diabetics and diabetic athletes.  I am a very outgoing and personable person, & I like to invest myself in others.  I love to help and I am very good at following directions, as well as giving them and managing people.  I possess very strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills, as well as problem solving and many computer skills.  I am looking forward to the years to come and the experiences they will bring.
