Canopy House Assistant Construction Manager

U.S Department of Energy Solar Decathlon

My university was selected to compete in this year's Solar Decathlon competition put on by the U.S. Department of Energy. Each team must design and construct a full scale solar powered home that produces more energy that it uses in a day. Once the house is constructed in Virginia, it has to be broken down into 4 large pieces and shipped to Orange County, California in time for the competition to begin. Each house will be scored in 10 different categories ranging from Market Appeal to Engineering.

I co-managed:

  • ordering materials and products
  • developing the construction schedule
  • organizing shipment of the house to and from California
  • gener construction procedures and safety
