Moana Te Waaka

Moana Te Waaka

I love spending time with my children!  I also love gardening and am an avid organic gardener. I won the 2010 Yates New Zealand Spring Vegetable growing competition by posting regular blogs of my gardening progress. These blogs can be accessed at

I love music and enjoy jamming with my sons on the guitar or piano. I have recently begun ballet classes as dancing is another passion of mine. A passion I share with my daughters.

Education Support Worker

Ministry Of Education

I have worked with four (4) children, all with varying needs in my role as Ministry of Education (MOE) ESW. In this role I work collaboratively alongside whanau, a team of experts and the teaching team of each child. We plan, assess and evaluate effective individual programmes for these children.  To meet the needs of a hearing impaired child I have learnt basic New Zealand Sign language. I have also learnt a number of effective behaviour management strategies as a result of working with behaviourally challenging children.

Support Worker

Ngamotu Kindergarten

I planned and prepared healthy morning tea each day for the children. I encouraged the children to help prepare the food and to practice good hygiene and safety.

Teacher Aid

Spotswood Primary School

I planned and delivered lessons to assist a child with special needs to achieve the objectives set out by the Ministry of Education. I assessed her progress and reported back to her parents and teacher.  I also assisted with the ORS funding application.

Relief Teacher

Spotswood Primary

I carried out the planning and assessment duties of each day that I taught. The emphasis of my programme was literacy and numeracy. With my pedagogical knowledge I was able to effectively deliver this programme to any age group. I have the ability to build a rapport with children very quickly which is important as a relief teacher, to ensure that the children feel safe.

Kreative Kiddies

Life Advance

I was one of the co-ordinators of the Kreative Kiddies Playgroup. This role included forming genuine relationships with the children and their caregivers in order to give them a sense of belonging. Other responsibilities included preparing the rosters for craft and music, taking regular inventory of equipment, planning the theme for each term and preparing craft and musical activities. I also assisted in filing forms and attaining requirements to meet the Ministry of Education registering standards for Play Groups.

2005 - 2008

Tamariki Alive Kid’s Club

I developed and implemented a holistic life skills curriculum for children aged 7-13 years. The majority of these children were from the lower socio-economic areas of New Plymouth. I co-led a team of 30 people in a variety of roles.
