Biography

Michele Phelps is a senior dietetics major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) anticipating a December 2011 graduation date.Her education continues to be of the utmost importance to her which is reflected by a cumulative GPA of 3.86.She has been accepted into the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics dietetic internship program to begin in February 2012.

Michele has had several nutrition-related professional experiences including working as a dietary aide at the Rouse Estates Nursing Home for the past 3 years.This position provided her with experience in medical nutrition therapy and food service management.Responsibilities she had in this position included assist with food preparation, monitor and record food item, dishwasher, and refrigerator temperatures, and train new employees.

During the summer of 2010, she volunteered with the Warren County Meals on Wheels program.Throughout this experience, she assisted with preparing and packaging meals as well as developing new menu items as per supervisor request.She has also held several leadership positions in extracurricular organization.These roles include serving as community committee leader for the IUP chapter of the Student Dietetic Association as well as Historian for Phi Eta Sigma (National Honors Fraternity).

Michele feels that the experiences that she has gained a variety of experiences and qualities which would make her a valuable asset to the practice of dietetics.She hopes to continue her education by obtaining a Masters Degree in Nutrition in addition to obtaining certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
