VP Finance and Project Manager

Webster Financial Corporation

Recognized as a "perfect fit" for the project management role implementing a Risk Adjusted Return on Capital (RAROC) Profitability System.  Led a team of over 20 members to implement a $2.5MM system which fully integrated Funds Transfer Pricing, Activity Based Costing and Economic Capital models to provide business leaders with RAROC results for Products, Customers and Lines of Business.

Notable Achievements:

  • Presided over a ground breaking systems implementation, in that many banks had implemented pieces of the software, but was the first of a mid-sized bank to fully integrate both processes and systems to have a seamless procedure from planning to customer portfolio evaluations
  • With no banking experience delivered a flawless implementation on time and on budget
  • Combated resistance by conducting one-on-one and group training sessions to demystify the process
  • Played a lead role in the design of the front-end processes for the inputs into the planning models
  • Subject Matter Expert for the technical capital modeling, using advanced statistical analyses
  • Ran a strategic sourcing initiative, uncovering 18% savings in categories including print management, IT hardware and software, facilities management, full service agency, and security
1996 - 2006

Senior Partner

Focus Partners

Focusing on the processes and not the industry, worked with over 20 clients to dramatically improve their performance in key areas of the organization.  From Dunkin Donuts to Asea Brown Boveri to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the work was a collaborative effort that focused the hearts and minds of the employees on changing what could be poignantly measured and had the highest degree of leverage.  If properly directed and empowered, employees intrinsically want to optimize performance.  The Accelerated Approach harvested the natural resources of the organization - human capital - to make it happen.

Notable Achievements:

  • Helped a retailer to reduce new store development from 19 months to an industry standard of less than 10 months, resulting in an annual recurring $8MM in revenue
  • Worked with Dade and Broward County municipal building departments and the South Florida Builders Association to facilitate reductions in the permit processing cycle time and ensure builders continued to invest in the region
  • Worked with an international company to develop tools to accelerate the collection of ABC data worldwide
  • Documented system requirements for a leading edge DNA database and helped the criminal investigators design their evidence collection process
  • Redesigned new business submission process, reducing the error rate from 45% to less than 10% and eventually to less than 2%, resulting in a 40% increase in new business and a 65% increase in distributor retention
  • Identified and justified an ERP system for a regional utility company, including GPS management of assets
1988 - 1995

Director of Operations

In charge of operations for the Life and Health Division; radically redesigned the systems, processes, and staff composition to reduce expenses by 40% ($14MM) year over year as well as improving the service level provided to distributors, positively impacting their desire to do business with The Travelers.  Also managed the planning and reporting functions.

1986 - 1988

Management Trainee

Successfully completed a two year Financial Management Training Program, where I streamlined and/or eliminated every position assigned. In addition to the desk positions, I also completed a special project in each six month rotation, including an audit of our government billing, where I uncovered $3MM in unbilled parts
