I chose to be a music teacher because of music’s unique ability to challenge emotional expression and creativity. It gives individuals a sense of belonging as they are acknowledged for their skills and accepted as a member of a group. Music is a craft which isn’t confined by age but can be enjoyed by playing, singing, or listening during all stages of life. As such an intricate part of our society, music deserves formal instruction in a classroom setting. In my classroom, students will use a hands-on curriculum to discover these rewards. As the teacher, I will guide students to learn to enjoy and appreciate music through their active participation so that they may understand and interact in our musical culture.
As a teacher, it is my life goal to influence the lives of the next generation so that they not only become educated in music but learn how to interact and succeed in modern society. I care not only about their academic endeavors, but their ability to mature into moral, caring, and respected individuals with problem solving skills they may transfer to future ventures. I understand that my own personal devotion and hard work is needed for me to receive the education and experience necessary to excel at this work. By attending University of Albany’s online graduate degree for Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology, I have gained more knowledge about the educational field to better prepare me for future teaching. As a lifelong learner, I will constantly rethink my teaching methods in order to give my student’s the most valuable education possible.
