About  Milan Taylor

Based in the Rockaway Peninsula of Queens, New York, Milan Taylor serves as an appointed member of Queens Community Board 14 and CEO of the Rockaway Youth Task Force (RYTF). He founded RYTF in 2011 to address the lack of youth participation in local civic and political affairs. Only 21 years old at the time of its establishment, Milan Taylor has since grown RYTF into a thriving community-based organization that engages local individuals between the ages of 15 and 25 in volunteer and advocacy work.

In charge of developing programs and building partnerships, Milan Taylor has led RYTF’s involvement in such activities as space heater drives, communal Thanksgiving dinners, and rallies against stop-and-frisk policing. He also worked with the RYTF team in the immediate aftermath Hurricane Sandy to organize a network of volunteers for the delivery of food and basic supplies to local residents unable to leave their apartments due to old age or disabilities. For his Sandy aid efforts, Mr. Taylor received an honorary proclamation from the City Council of New York and had the opportunity to meet former President Bill Clinton.

A respected commentator on youth engagement, Milan Taylor has delivered a keynote speech for the Shoreline Project Capstone Summit in New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as fulfilled an invitation to speak at a community empowerment conference in Paris, France. He has also participated in a panel discussion at the University of Colorado’s Natural Hazards Center.
