An online "shopping cart" platform web store we (my wife Kathy and I) developed specializing in huge live lobsters and fresh seafood delivered via drop-shippers from New England to our customers' door overnight. We are responsible for all day to day operations including, sales, customer service, some html programming, marketing and advertising via email and social networks, credit card processing, freight claims and dispute resolution, branding, bookkeeping and accounts payable, web search engine optimization, peripheral site construction and administration, photography and blogging.

CATASTROPHE CONSULTING & CONSTRUCTION

Consulting entity begun in 2010 to teach and implement my methodologies and techniques to interested roofing and construction companies. Training provided in understanding the insurance industry in general and more specifically the claims process from top to bottom. I try to emphasize that there is no need to be a crook or exploitive, just thorough and accurate. Have done contract work as insurance negotiator/liaison, insurance appraiser, and instructor. I provide training on damage recognition, proper scope practices and documentation procedures, Xactimate training/support  on installation/implementation/modelling/macros. I discuss handling aggressive adjusters and claims personnel, utilizing or offsetting/defeating experts and engineers, insurance policies/coverage's/exclusions/etc..., as well as the different departments of the insurance companies and why they are important. I teach proven sales and closing techniques to help boost profitability and quality of project. I discuss in detail time management, properly stocked and maintained vehicles, proposal/contract presentation and closing procedures, proper file and documentation management and the importance of the up-sell/upgrade mentality. 

We have additionally completed a number of residential projects here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area as well as a few larger commercial projects on a set of historic buildings in Oklahoma City last year. I have additionally contracted as a plug and play salesman, sales manager and operations/production manager to a couple of companies on temporary assignments.

Catastrophe related (hurricane, hail and windstorm) sub-contract residential and commercial construction sales. Responsible for sales, estimation, contract negotiation and execution, insurance negotiation, Xactimate preparation and presentation, materials order and inventory, project management and supervision, customer service and collections. At times, I have acted in management capacities with additional responsibilities of recruiting/hiring/training/termination of sales staff marketing/advertising, as well as, system updates for streamlining/improvement of processes and operations. As a storm trooper, I worked Hurricane(s) Charley/Frances/Jeanne/Katrina/Rita and Ike as well as numerous hailstorms and tornadoes in the DFW metroplex area, Austin, Lubbock and Oklahoma City markets. Contract multi-lines insurance adjustment services specializing in settlement of large loss catastrophic damage to residential and commercial real estate. In 1989 successfully implemented the first computer driven construction estimates ever accepted by the insurance/adjusting industry. Wrote the first flood macros regarding room/building duplication in 1992 for NFIP acceptability and was instrumental in the initial systems analysis for electronic file/photo/estimate transfer in an attempt to facilitate paperless insurance adjustment scenarios. Also provided contract construction estimating/consulting services to the insurance, banking and real estate industries as well as the private sector. Property damage estimates written and settled up to twenty million dollars. In addition to property losses, adjusted personal property, casualty, workers comp, liability, loss of use, business interruption, crop loss and farm owners claims.

Stella's Campground and Marina - Lake Fork

Designed/constructed, owned and operated a 13 acre RV park with 5000 sf tackle shop, restaurant, rental cabins and fishing guide service. Duties included retail sales, marketing, merchandising, branding, advertising, promotion, budgeting, purchasing, inventory set-up and control of over 10,000 SKU's, employee training/staffing/management, bookkeeping and account reconciliation, leasing and property management, scheduling and payroll, customer service as well as a licensed fishing guide service. During this time, I was able to almost single-handedly defeat a statewide measure by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept. along with the sport-fishing tackle industry to outlaw the sale and use of live bait in the state of Texas. Additionally, I was a published writer for Outdoor Times Magazine in the Lake Fork area. Business was closed and liquidated due to divorce.

General construction firm specializing in interior/exterior trim (and other trades) sub-contracting to the N. Dallas custom home industry. Our emphasis was on site-built and installed stain-grade hardwood custom cabinetry and raised paneling, multi-tiered crown moldings and light boxes, bent-wood stair railings, custom fireplace mantels, wainscot/chair-railings, and general trim, closet and door packaging. Other significant contracts included multi-family framing/punch-out/decking/cornice and door/trim installations. When the housing bubble and savings & loan crisis of the mid 80's slowed down that sector, we transitioned into a two division (residential and commercial) general contracting  and construction consulting firm. As a consultant, I wrote some very basic software which enabled me to rapidly and accurately define and quantify large scale estimates of functionally obsolete or damaged structures (homes, office buildings, condo/apartment complexes and shopping centers left vacant, unfinished or abandoned during the S&L crisis) for the real estate appraisal and property management industries. The residential division completed turnkey full home all trades remodeling, redwood deck and spa design/installation and fencing. The commercial division concentrated on retail/office and commercial finish-outs (i.e trim/cabinetry/fixture set packages for GC's doing Victoria's Secret, Corrigans, Zales, Gap stores, etc...), medium sized municipal contracts (i.e. the City of Plano Aquacenter and old municipal jail paint and remodels, RL Turner HS in Carrollton new wing addition finish out contract for all the metal doors, steel framing, acoustic ceilings, wall finishes, trim package and flooring, etc...) as well as a number of multi-family condo and apartment ceramic tile/marble and hardwood flooring retrofits.

Objective

A recent prolonged illness and subsequent death of a family member is forcing me to rethink my long term strategies and business goals. That being said, my objectives are three-fold:

  1. To connect with a best of breed roofing, construction or consulting firm who can utilize, enhance or improve upon my unique skill set for profit, organizational growth and advancement.
  2. To obtain a challenging position and long term employment in an organization that can produce what I sell, properly support those that I would manage and understands that neither integrity nor quality should ever be compromised.
  3. To work as part of a dynamic team in a reputable firm where hard work and sincerity are appreciated.

I would consider returning to the insurance claims industry if the right position were to present itself or a lateral move to another industry.
