  • Developed strategic supplier relationships that allowed us to successfully endure a turbulent time period in the steel industry; despite industry wide material shortages, we maintained 100% on-time customer delivery. Furthermore, customer feedback has indicated we routinely procure raw material about 10% lower than our competitors.

Cost reduction initiatives

  • Negotiated new corrugated packaging contracts resulting in annual savings of 38%
  • Negotiated new general shop supply agreements netting 40% annual savings

Re-engineered various business processes to improve efficiency in daily purchasing operations, including re-engineering the material rejection process. The changes cut the total rejection time approximately 30%.

Action: Created a raw material tracking spreadsheet to offset the increased cost and bill our customers accordingly

Result: By being proactive we were able to quickly get the increases approved with our customers and avoid substantial loss in profit


Challenge: Reduce and control inventory of expensive imported component with long lead time

Action: Created an inventory management spreadsheet to help micromanage inventory levels

Result: Reduced physically inventory by 50%, thus reducing carrying cost


Challenge: Convert approved vendor list from large paper file to electronic file and develop a procedure to ensure supplier's ISO quality certifications are current

Action: Created a spreadsheet that links to the certification, identifies whether the certification is current and sends out an email notification if the certification is expired

Result: Certifications are now kept current in near real time rather than physically sorting through hard copy files to check their status
