Michelle Bassi is a blogger and a speaker on a mission to raise awareness of the very serious consequences of driving under the influence. On Christmas Day 2007, Bassi’s life changed forever when a drunk driver plowed into the back of her grandparents’ Chevrolet Tahoe, killing her parents and grandmother and seriously injuring her grandfather. The drunk driver, David Belniak, accepted a plea-bargain for a 12-year prison sentence followed by 10 years of probation - an unsatisfactory conclusion for Michelle Bassi and her sisters.Michelle Bassi could have given up, but she turned the tragedy into something positive, working first with Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) and then on her own as a public speaker. For two years, she addressed thousands of high-school students in the Northeast area on the dangers of driving while intoxicated. Bassi also compiled a PowerPoint press kit to provide to alcohol-awareness organizations. In addition, Michelle Bassi created and maintains a blog, www.keeppromising.com, wherein she writes about laws and events related to drunk driving.Bassi attended Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Media Studies and Communication. While co-captaining the School Dance Team, Michelle Bassi also served as a reporter on the Spectrum and won recognition for the Best Documentary, Biography, or Instructional Video. Since graduating in 2005, Bassi has served as the Executive Assistant to the President of The Atlantic Group in Wilton, Connecticut; as a Commercial Operations Specialist for MTV Networks in Manhattan; and as a Travel Specialist for Cruist Resort & World Travel, Inc., in Fairfield.
