Editor, Focus on Issues

  • Research, write, edit, and publish Focus on Issues, an online weekly feature that promotes Hoover initiatives by linking current events and contemporary issues with the research and writings of Hoover fellows.
  • Maintain Focus on Issues Web site, including designing Web page, uploading site to remote server, and resolving HTML errors.
  • Create original artwork, including graphs and banner images. Manage licensing, editing, and placement of images purchased from stock image galleries.
  • Collaborate with contracted public relations firm to form strategies to distribute Focus on Issues to appropriate media outlets.
  • Provide editing support to the Office of the Director in updating Hoover print publications.

I remain very proud of the work I accomplished authoring and editing "Focus on Issues (FOI)." FOI, an online weekly journal-type article that linked current social and political events with the writing and research of Hoover fellows. One of the all-time most-viewed web pages on the Hoover website, these articles have been used by Stanford professors as class materials and were referenced in government documents worldwide, including Germany and Turkey. One article, The U.S.-China Trade Deficit, Reason for Worry? was published in a scholarly print edition on China and its economy.

Working for Stanford Blood Center was wonderful...I thoroughly enjoyed the many and varied duties, from writing press releases to being interviewed on TV. I'll always have fond memories of SBC; and am still a blood donor!

  • Write, layout or direct design, and edit widely distributed quarterly donor and staff newsletters, and other internal communication pieces. Began series of medically based “Science of Blood” quarterly feature articles.
  • Maintain Web site and provide, edit, and post copy and content.
  • Serve as media relations backup, including responding to press inquiries, coordinating and appearing in radio and TV interviews, and providing copy points.
  • Research, write, and edit press releases, patient and donor stories, and public service announcements  for release to local news organizations.

  • Provide written support to medical directors on communication pieces for distribution to School of Medicine physicians and medical personnel.
  • Assist in the launch of initial development program by creating an action plan and materials to support fund raising efforts.
