Having worked in multiple countries around the world, Michael Mutlu focuses on international affairs in his career and personal time. In addition to staying current on global and domestic events, he often travels to expand his knowledge of different cultures and languages.Working in international business and relations, Michael Mutlu has held internships in Turkey, Georgia, and Russia. While in Istanbul, he worked for the Mu Mu Corporation as an Assistant to the Director. In 2007, he became an Intern for Strait Oil & Gas Ltd. in Tbilisi. Along with assisting the company’s chairman, Michael Mutlu worked with geologists analyzing oil and gas reserves. After the year-long internship in Georgia, he went to Moscow, where he worked as an English tutor, helping Russian and Chinese students learn English by, among other things, leading group discussions on contemporary events in English until 2009.While in Russia, Michael Mutlu studied Russian history, geography, and grammar at Moscow State University, earning a certificate in Russian culture and language from the institution in 2009. Two years later, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Baruch College in New York City. The second-place finalist for the Colin Powell Fellowship, Mr. Mutlu studied finance and Middle Eastern history at the school.Currently, Michael Mutlu works as a project coordinator at the Turkish Cultural Center and Russian American Cultural Heritage Center in New York City. At the former, he works on projects that strengthen ties between the Turkish diaspora and the United States. He also conducts research on Russian communities within the U.S. for the latter. Beyond his professional work, Michael Mutlu dedicates much of his time to reading journals in an effort to stay current on global events. He belongs to Young Professionals in Foreign Policy and China Institute, an organization dedicated to developing a deeper understanding of the country. Moreover, he enjoys making additions to his collection of 17th- to 19th-century books from around the world in a variety of languages.
