  • Founded a consulting firm to help organizations increase employee and customer engagement.
  • Conducted multi-year study of great and failed leaders of businesses, sports teams, nations and social sector organizations to understand how they increased or decreased emotional connections in organizations they led. The study included research in diverse fields of knowledge such as organizational behavior, psychology, sociology, social networking and neuroscience.The study demonstrated that a sense of connection makes people feel like part of the team and is a key driver of employee engagement, client engagement and organizational success.
  • Wrote a manuscript based on research, and secured literary agent and publishing agreement with one of America’s leading publishers.
  • Primary author of the book Fired Up or Burned Out: How to Reignite Your Team’s Passion, Creativity and Productivity published in July 2007. Contributor to What Managers Say, What Employees Hear: Connecting with Your Front Line (So They’ll Connect with Customers), edited by Regina Maruca, former Senior Editor at Harvard Business Review.

Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer

US Trust (Part of Charles Schwab)

  • Led a marketing department that included managing marketing strategy, communications, product and internet development, event marketing, corporate communications and corporate travel functions. Reported to U.S. Trust’s CEO.
  • Began repositioned the firm’s brand as a home for smart investors (rather than merely a home for old money).Hired and worked alongside Landor Associates to develop a new visual positioning/corporate identity for U.S. Trust.
1993 - 2001

Principal and Chief Marketing Officer of the Private Wealth Management Group

  • Built and led a start-up marketing departments in New York and London.Reported to the head of Private Wealth Management.
  • Member of the management team that doubled the group’s revenues over two and one-half years. Revenue per investment representative increased from $1.8 million to $3.5 million.
  • 1993-1998 was Senior Vice President, Business and Product Development at Morgan Stanley's Van Kampen Investments unit in suburban Chicago.  Led the firm’s efforts to grow organically through expansion of product line and distribution outlets.Reported to the firm’s president.  Managed the introduction of 25 new mutual funds (on and offshore) and variable annuity products that raised $15.7 billion in net assets.
