Since 2001, Dr. Michael Bither of Freeport, Maine, has owned and operated Southern Maine Geriatrics Associates. Before he chose to specialize in geriatrics, he spent nearly 15 years as a family practice doctor, treating patients of all ages. He has served as the medical director for several long-term care facilities across southern Maine and has ample experience caring for adults. A Certified Medical Director since 1994, Dr. Michael Bither was a founding member of the Maine Medical Directors Association.In addition, Dr. Michael Bither has maintained membership in the American Medical Directors Association since 1990, and he served as a State President’s Representative Board Member from 2002 to 2005. He also spent four years on the Public Policy Committee and collaborated on a white paper for the organization.In 2005, Dr. Bither joined Beacon Hospice in Portland, Maine, as the Medical Director. He earned a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hospice and Palliative Medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine and maintains membership in the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.Dr. Michael Bither holds affiliations with Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and the Maine Medical Center in Portland. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and his medical degree from Eberhard-Karls University Medical School in Tuebingen, Germany. Dr. Bither has practiced medicine in Maine for over 25 years. Married with three children, he enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, and skiing in his spare time.
