Nursing Philosophy

I view nursing as a unique discipline that recognizes care is more important than cure.  This philosophy requires an obligation that my actions are knowledge based, which necessitates a commitment to life-long learning.  My goal is to build trusting relationships with patients so that my actions will help each patient maintain autonomy, as well as experience their desired outcomes.  My responsibilities include serving as a patient advocate, which requires good communication with physicians, as well as other disciplines involved in each patient's care.  Most diagnoses, including cancer, are now considered chronic illnesses.  It is my responsibility to help patients identify strategies to adhere to treatment regimens in an effort to live their life to the fullest, regardless of what their diagnosis may be.
