About Mendel Bluming

Mendel Bluming is a Maryland community leader who guides the Jewish communal organization Chabad Shul of Potomac as executive director and rabbi. His synagogue is known for its inclusiveness and engagement with families in the local area. Mendel Bluming was ordained as a rabbi by the French rabbinical and educational leader Hillel Pewzner and earned ordination as a Dayan (Jewish judge) from the Chief Rabbi of Montreal, Pinchas
Hirshprung.

Rabbi Bluming’s responsibilities include officiating at events within the Jewish life cycle, and he personally guides and counsels members of his synagogue. He provides adult education classes through the Chabad of Potomac, with offerings including “From Sinai to Cyberspace: How Ancient Wisdom Guides a Modern World.” The course “Judaism Decoded: The Origins and Evolution of Jewish Tradition” is presented once a week over a six-week period and explores ways of discerning whether biblical interpretations are true to the original intent. Mendel Bluming was a Jewish Federation of Greater Washington board member for several years.
