I brought up the quality of the Web sites with improved graphics and upgraded the look of the ConnectPress annual calendar of  special-subject publications, called "Industry Spotlights."

Jun 2006 - May 2008

Web Editor | Media Producer | Paginator

The Taos News

A hypenated position at the paper led to gains in many skill areas of design, media production and Web content management. I designed and produced page layouts and cover illustrations for this award winning weekly newspaper.

I was promoted to Web editor of their award winning web site just prior to their conversion to a new content management system. I drove the paper to create the media center as a way to boost The Taos News into the cutting edge of newspapers' movement into video and Web media. I also prototyped their breaking news media coverage procedure.

I also helped the paper institute their forum policies. I also designed other social media platforms for the paper, including a community forum site and Twittered headlines as news broke on the paper's Web site.

The Taos News Online

Aug 2001 - Apr 2003

copy editor

The Taos News

Chief Copy Editor and Calendar and Events Editor for an award-winning weekly newspaper with a circulation of 10,000. Duties included preparation and tracking of news briefs, letters to the editor, anouncements, and items for Tempo’s briefs sections; copy editing, copy flow through the editorial department’s software system.

I'm pretty familiar with content management systems, especially Wordpress. It's easy to take what I've learned there and port it over to other CMS programs -- whether proprietary or public. I maintain several blogs and sites for myself and clients. I love to see the joy on a person's face when he or she sees, once I've helped get them set up, how easy it is to take part in the Internet and have a Web site.

Audio Recording and Sountrack Creation

Using Audacity and Reason, I've created dozens of soundtracks for videos and interactive media like CDs for tourism, education, and news and feature videos for The Taos News media center. As a semi-professional musician I've logged many hours of recording studio experience, created advertising and radio spots and have embraced the new digital recording revolution because of the freedom and accessibility it represents. Voice-overs, narration and script writing skills are also a big plus.

From BBEDIT to Dreamweaver, I've built Web sites and HTML since Adobe Page Mill. I don't write applications or javascripts, though I do understand how to install them. I'm learning Flash. I know how to embed plug-and-play scripts and how to work with CSS as well.

Final Cut Express

Edited videos shot with the reporting staff of The Taos News in Taos, New Mexico. Helped the newspaper make the transition to media with the creation of the Taos News Media Center on Youtube.

Live Type

I love making titles as much as I love making full-scale videos. I would really appreciate an opportunity to pursue it as an art form.

I made the conversion from Quark to NDesign in 2005 and helped The Taos News make that conversion in tandem with a news content management system called News Edit Pro. I've been involved with desktop publishing since the mid-1980s.

I've used PhotoShop since it was released in the late 1980s, as a photographer, designer and also for designing Web sites.
