Board certified in Occupational Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine for nearly 20 years, Melissa D. Tonn, MD, has served OccMD Group P.A. as its President and Chief Medical Officer since 2000. Dr. Melissa Tonn also retains certification by the American Academy of Pain Management.
Dr. Melissa Tonn is a Fellow, Director, and the President-Elect of the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. A current member of the Editorial Board for The Official Disability Guidelines of the Work Loss Data Institute, Dr. Tonn previously served on the editorial boards of publications including Occupational Health Management and the Texas Edition of the Workers’ Compensation Adviser.
In 2011, Governor Rick Perry appointed Melissa Tonn, MD, to a term on the Texas Woman’s University Board of Regents, her third gubernatorial appointment. In 2008, Governor Perry named Dr. Tonn to a four-year term as a member of the District Review Committee for the Texas Medical Board. From 2001 through 2004, Dr. Tonn served the State of Texas as an appointee to the Texas Workers’ Compensation Health Care Network Advisory Committee.
Melissa Tonn, MD, is a frequent speaker, and has presented on topics including the Americans with Disabilities Act, cost containment in work-related injuries, and workplace drug testing. Dr Tonn’s professional interests include disorders of the musculoskeletal system, treating and evaluating chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS/RSD), and evaluating and treating complex work injury patients. Licensed to practice medicine in Texas since 1987, she is a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society.
