Melissa McNamara, MD, is a specialist in treating individuals with rheumatologic diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. In 1996, Dr. McNamara matriculated to the University of Florida College of Medicine, where she began her medical training. In 2001, she entered her residency program in Oakland, California, in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), but transferred into an Internal Medicine program in 2003. Following this, Dr. McNamara entered an extensive fellowship program at the University of California, Los Angeles, in which she further specialized in Rheumatology.In private practice since 2007, Melissa McNamara, MD, serves the communities in California’s San Ramon Valley. There, Dr. McNamara uses her skills and experience to treat various disorders of the musculoskeletal system that cause severe pain and discomfort and hamper quality of life for her patients. To this end, she is committed to maintaining currency with innovative techniques and treatment strategies that offer her patients the best outcomes while also keeping healthcare costs affordable. A particular technique at Dr. McNamara’s disposal is the use of ultrasound equipment in the application of pain-relieving medicines. Melissa McNamara, MD, prefers to use ultrasound equipment over CT or MRI scans in the treatment of individuals with arthritic pain in joints, nerves or tendons. She uses this equipment to guide more precise injections into these areas, which improves the overall accuracy, quality and effectiveness of injected medications. Dr. McNamara is also regularly involved in training others in these methods. Additionally, Dr. McNamara makes use of her OB/GYN experience to aid pregnant women who are diagnosed with rheumatologic disorders face the challenges that this combination of bodily stresses can bring. Melissa McNamara, MD, provides financial support and contributes her time to various charitable organizations such as the Lupus Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation.
