Summer semester, I worked with LPN students in Maternal/Child. I assigned, supervised and evaluated students on labor and delivery, well baby nursery, and postpartum units.

Fall semester, I worked with RN students in Fundamentals. First, I taught and validated nursing students on fundamental skills in skills lab. After validation, I taught, assigned, supervised and evaluated students in a nursing home. I also helped with METI experiences in skills lab.

I worked 240 hours with a faculty mentor as part of my graduate program. I prepared and delivered a lecture, and then prepared test questions to evaluate. I also worked in clinicals on a medical surgical unit at UAB West hospital.

I worked with a group of 8 undergraduate nursing students on a medical/surgical unit that were in their 3rd semester of upper division called adult health. I was a temporary instructor filling in for an instructor unable to teach this part of the semester. I really enjoyed watching students mature and learn.

Research (without funding)

I plan to study the culture and marginalization using the historical perspective of nursing for my dissertation. I want to interview nurses in the hospital setting and understand their feelings regarding professionalization, marginalization, and empowerment as a bedside nurse and use a critical hermeneutic qualitative research method.
