Work History

The artworks above represent some of the media, techniques and ideas of former public school students I taught.

Many of these students are now making art a career.  I am proud I can now ask them for recommendation letters!  Mallory is Art Director Young Readers Division, Penguin Books, NYC.  Ryan is a Menswear Designer for Abercrombie and Fitch, Columbus, OH.  Nayna is an Interactive Designer, Night Agency, NYC.  Gordon is Technical Director, Moonbot Studios, Dallas, TX.  Rachel, Midi-Designer, Livid Instruments, Austin, TX.  Saul, junior at Pratt School of Art and Design, 2012 Intern Donald Judd Foundation, Marfa, TX.

Former students have become art teachers, museum curators, art historians, botanical illustrators, and fine artists with gallery representation.

The side bar illuminates some of the adventures I have had traveling to art venues and educational institutes.

I continue to pursue art venues all over the country.

Art Teacher

Allen High School

I have been a public school art educator 19 years.  I care about public education, and I have a passion for contemporary art.  I love what young people can do!

I have taught in the Allen Independent School District, Allen, TX, since 1999.  Previously, I taught in the Dallas Independent School District, Dallas, TX.  I have substitute taught in Inupiat Eskimo schools in Alaska, and held full time teaching positions at Spanish-speaking schools, and African American schools in the Dallas ISD.

Allen High School serves grades 10-12, with approximately 1,500 students in each grade.  There are five art teachers.  I am the drawing instructor for the art department.  I teach Art 1; Drawing 2; Advanced Placement Drawing Portfolio; and Advanced Placement 2-Dimensional Design Portfolio.  In the past I have taught Sculpture; Advanced Placement 3-Dimensional Design; Graphic Design and Painting for Allen High School.

I have written and recieved various grants throughout my teaching career.  Each of the grants was written with the student and classroom needs in mind, and allowed me to teach lessons otherwise unavailable.  I have

received grant monies to teach Saturday Studio, Art Summer Camp, Comics with Class (sequential art and illustration), and Portfolio Club.

As of Spring 2012 I am credited with 735+ staff development hours, over half of them in the study of art for the classroom.
