Chief of Psychiatry

Harrington Hospital

Dr. Vemuri is Chief of Psychiatry at Harrington Hospital in suburban Boston and has been practicing psychiatry for several years. She is board-certified in both Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Formerly she was an Associate Medical Director of adult in-patient unit as well as the Director of ECT at University of Massachusetts Medical Center. She has been a co-investigator with adult clinical studies in Psychiatry at Umass Medical Center. Dr. Vemuri continues to teach and supervise third year medical students from UMass Medical School. She has taught and supervised Psychiatry residents and Child Fellows at Umass. For the past few years she has been the supervisor for fourth year residents from St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She has been the recipient of Best Medical Student Teaching Award at Umass Medical School and the Certificate for Excellence in teaching from American Psychiatric Association. She has a part time private practice treating both adults and children. Dr. Vemuri completed her medical education at Guntur Medical College, India. Her Adult Psychiatry Residency was from MCP- Hahnemann University, Philadelphia. She did her fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from Weill- Cornell Medical Center, Westchester, NY. She completed a Psychopharmacology fellowship at UMass Medical School, Worcester.


Dr. Meenakshi Vemuri currently works full time as Chief of Psychiatry at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge, MA and maintains a part time group practice in Framigham, MA. She is board certified in Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with experience treating mental illness of varying severity. Over the years she has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Her experience includes ECT. She trained in her adult Psychiatry residency from MCP Hahnemann University, Philadelphia, . Her training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is from Weill Cornell Medical Center, Westchester, NY and Psychoopharmacology Felloship from Umass Medical School. She has supervised third year medical students, residents and fellows in training from Umass Medical School and fourth year residents in Psychiatry from St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Brighton, MA. She is a member of APA, AACAP and ISEN and Mass Medical Society. She is an advocate for children through Child Mind .org.
