Business Development Manager

BAE Systems - Ground Systems

Hired into a new position as Capture Manager to pursue new business “White Space” opportunities for BAE Ground Systems. Assessed existing BAE facility/equipment capabilities and core competencies to determine the viability of entering into the nuclear waste container fabrication business. This and additional market opportunities were identified and a strategy developed to enter the nuclear fabrication industry utilizing an existing facility and recognized BAE Ground Systems core competencies.  Also utilized a previously licensed, but unused welding technology which provided a $150K competitive fabrication advantage on each unit produced. A capture plan was then developed and customer interest generated for the fabrication of nuclear waste storage systems and other nuclear and non-nuclear products. A follow-on strategic plan was in process to form a renewable energy manufacturing division to include wind and hydro-power renewable energy opportunities in addition to the nuclear industry fabrication activities. During the reorganization from Ground Systems to US Combat Systems, the effort to pursue alternate business opportunities was stopped and my position eliminated.

Summary

I have twenty-five years of business development and project management experience and I remain passionate about exploring new markets and business opportunities.Few technologies in and of themselves are intrinsically disruptive or sustaining in character. It is the strategy or business model that the technology enables that creates the disruptive impact.I can develop these strategies.

My fundamentals in business development are strong and I learned long ago to think differently, not be afraid to ask the dumb questions, focus on the things that bring value to the company and enhance the customer value proposition.

I am a highly accomplished business development professional with domestic and international experience with both startup and growth organizations where my business development, project management, and proposal-specific experience helped capture major Federal Government and commercial contracts.

Over the years, I have successfully managed and directed multiple, concurrent projects to ensure staffing and resources were available when and where needed in support of our clients in Europe, North America, and strategic internal product development efforts.I have been an effective team builder and have always encouraged my project managers to involve their team members as much as possible in all aspects of project planning. This approach increased employee ownership and commitment, kept our employee turnover rate extremely low and fostered an environment where team members remained motivated and contributing to the overall project effort.
