Professional Profile

Marina received her BA in Physical Therapy in 1988 from Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. She is a licensed Physical Therapist in Miami, Florida and has coordinated lymphedema treatment programs  in Miami and South America. She received her certification as an MLD/CDT therapist from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in 1996 and has been dedicated to lymphedema and wound care since. Marina has been certified as a wound specialist by the National Alliance of Wound Care (NAWC) in 2004. Since 1995, she has lectured about lymphedema, wound care and vascular rehabilitation in South American countries, including Colombia and Venezuela, in different conferences on phlebology and lymphology. She was an instructor for the American Heart Association for BLS.

Marina obtained her National Lymphedema Therapist Certification by the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA) in October of 2008.

Biography

Marina Maduro, the youngest of eight, was born in Puerto de Hierro, Venezuela, and lived most of her young life in Valencia. During her high school years, she joined the state teams of women’s basketball and volleyball and proceeded to win national championships throughout the first half of her high school career. Afterward, she participated with the modern dance and ballet group at the Carabobo University.

In 1983, she applied for and was granted a scholarship to move to the United States to study physical therapy. Upon arriving, she spent six months learning English, then one year on prerequisites at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado, before moving to Wichita, Kansas, where she started her studies in physical therapy at Wichita State University. Additionally, she studied dance and human body movement in the same university. Marina moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1986, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy at Washington University in 1988. Upon graduation, she moved to Miami, Florida to continue her career.

Marina is an independently licensed Physical Therapist based in Miami, Florida. Since receiving her diploma, she has worked for several hospitals in the area under various positions, including Assistant Director of the Rehabilitation Department, Director of the Lymphedema Program, Clinical Coordinator and Wound Care Center Supervisor. Currently, Marina teaches for the Academy of Lymphatic Studies, belonging to the Medical Advisory Board of said institution. Besides being licensed as a physical therapist, she also specializes in wound care, lymphedema therapy and vascular rehabilitation, along with her extensive experience in management and leadership.

Marina now lives in Miami with her husband and three sons.
